Sophisticated ! Attractive ! </li></ul><ul><li>Sustainable ? </li></ul>

Digital work – e.g. Cardiff <ul><li>E-theses into ORCA (mandatory), </li></ul><ul><li>E-prints (REF) into ORCA (supported by deposit tool for academic staff), </li></ul><ul><li>Academic Schools – own projects, </li></ul><ul><li>‘Digital Humanities’ – support brewing, </li></ul><ul><li>Recent Bristol Seminar </li></ul><ul><li>Digital Preservation pilot task groups </li></ul>

Digital work - SCOLAR <ul><li>2002 project for School of Welsh, </li></ul><ul><li>Commercial digital repository, </li></ul><ul><li>Maintained for 9 years, now transferring to Digitool, (from Library Catalogue suppliers), </li></ul><ul><li>c. 100,000 hits p.a. for one Welsh project, </li></ul><ul><li>Five other digitised collections to be added and released shortly. </li></ul><ul><li>SCOLAR – niche teaching/research agenda, </li></ul><ul><li>Recent ‘profile’ investment in TTP. </li></ul>

SCOLAR – Cymru ? <ul><li>WHELF Special Collections Group, </li></ul><ul><li>Charged with progressing digital agenda, </li></ul><ul><li>Only Cardiff (SCOLAR) doing systematic digitisation presently, </li></ul><ul><li>(Bangor, Swansea, etc, one-off works), </li></ul><ul><li>Examining Digitool for Welsh HE, </li></ul><ul><li>(First need to launch it in Cardiff)! </li></ul><ul><li>Links to WHELF digital strategy (p.t.o.), </li></ul>

Benefits of Digitool Cymru <ul><li>- shared expertise, (basic work already done), </li></ul><ul><li>- creating content, </li></ul><ul><li>- partners raise critical mass of material, </li></ul><ul><li>- partners lower overall costs, </li></ul><ul><li>- raised profile, so better take-up for </li></ul><ul><li>teaching/research, </li></ul><ul><li>- meets untouched ‘niche’ academic needs - </li></ul><ul><li>(reaches the parts other beers…non-Welsh </li></ul><ul><li>related digitisation: Greek mss, Pharmacology </li></ul><ul><li>history, etc.) </li></ul>

Issue for the future ? <ul><li>Management of shared resource, </li></ul><ul><li>Funding of shared resource, </li></ul><ul><li>Input mechanisms for data uploading, </li></ul><ul><li>Longer term sustainability of shared resource, </li></ul><ul><li>(Major mergers within University of Wales presently, so Libraries too), </li></ul><ul><li>‘ Digital Humanities’, link to research support, </li></ul><ul><li>To avoid being left behind – this or what else? </li></ul>
