10. Some facts:
• The UK has made a firm commitment to cut carbon emissions by at least 80% by 2050. Between 2010
and 2020, the UK is expected to cut greenhouse emissions by 29% and must reduce this amount by a
further 85% by 2030.
• In 2013 the UK green economy reached £122 bn. A share of a global market worth 3.3 trillion and
employing close to a million people.
• Wind, wave and tidal power currently provide employment for 34,500 people in the UK and have the
potential to create 70,000 more jobs over the next decade.
• £3 billion has been invested into the south west renewable energy industry, which now provides 14 per
cent of our electricity and supports 12,800 jobs. Current growth rates predict 16,000 will be working in
the South West renewable energy sector in 2020.
• From July 01, 2014 to June 30, 2015 2,591 jobs in the Green Economy were advertised in the West of
England.
