2. 2. Characters
Anna Fitzgerlad is a teenager who has been through many times by the hospital. The surgeries, injections, immunizations, and transfusions are part of your life. She is not sick, but his sister Kate has leukemia. Anna's parents conceived so that she could preserve the pitiful existence of Kate and Anna never had a problem with that, until now that questions what is its place in the family and the world. Despite professing love for his sister.
Sara Fitzgerald
Sara acts first and foremost as a mother throughout the novel, and her need to keep her daughter, Kate, alive motivates her more than any other impulse. Whatever other problem she encounters, be it Jesse’s delinquency or Anna’s need for independence, the matter holds less importance for her than Kate’s survival
3. 3. Campbell Alexander, Campbell has almost no friends, except for his service dog, Judge. Instead, he keeps himself closed off from others, fearing his epilepsy will cause people to pity him or think him a burden, and he uses his sarcasm to hold people at a distance.
JesseFitzgeraldAnna'sbrotherspends most of his time setting fire to abandoned buildings with home-made explosives and doing drugs. He is a self-confessed juvenile delinquent. One moment when his parents pay him any attention is when Brian discovers that it is Jesse who has been setting the fires.
4. 4. Kate Fitzgerald - The middle Fitzgerald child and the focal point of many of the novel’s events. Kate’s cancer is at the heart of the story, but she only narrates the prologue and epilogue. She has struggled with cancer nearly her entire life, and she appears to have come to terms with the fact that she might die.
Brian Fitzgerald - The father of the Fitzgerald children and a career firefighter. Brian often serves as a foil to Sara. In contrast to her, he can view the situation from his children’s perspectives, making him both more perceptive and understanding than Sara at times. Yet Brian also escapes into his work to avoid dealing with the hardships surrounding his family
5. 5. Dr. Chance - Kate’s oncologist. A warm but serious man, Dr. Chance represents the science and medicine keeping Kate alive. He speaks to Sara and Brian very honestly and directly about Kate’s condition, yet no matter how bleak Kate’s situation gets, Dr. Chance always offers hope that a treatment may work, even when the chances are slim.
Judge DeSalvo - The judge appointed to Anna’s case. Fair and kind, Judge DeSalvo genuinely cares for Anna’s well-being. As the father of a child killed by a drunk driver, he understands how desperately Sara and Brian want to keep Kate alive.
6. 6. Taylor Ambrose - Kate’s crush and fellow cancer patient. Kate and Taylor’s short relationship emphasizes that, at heart, Kate is a normal teenage girl. Yet Taylor’s sudden death underscores the fact that Kate’s condition remains extremely fragile and that she could die with little warning
Izzy Romano - Julia’s twin sister and roommate. Izzy’s dislike of Campbell reflects how much he hurt Julia, and her presence in the story serves as another example of the extreme closeness that can exist between sisters
Judge (the dog) - Campbell’s service dog. Campbell does not reveal why he needs Judge for most of the book. Ultimately he reveals that Judge is an epilepsy service dog, meaning he alerts Campbell if a seizure is imminent so Campbell can move to a safe environment.
7. 7. Time Line
When Sara Fitzgerald gave birth to Kate, she and her husband Brian were overjoyed with the arrival of the baby. But joy turned to fear when Kate was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia. Kate's health became the center of the family, which grew even more with the birth of his sister Anna.
But Anna was not expected to be just another family member. She was a necessity, conceived with the perfect genetic combination, designed specifically to save Kate's life.
Eleven years of living the routine of endless medical procedures, complications and hospital stays, and Kate's kidneys are failing. She needs a new one, But Anna, with her 11-year-old says, for the first time: "what about me?" And for the first time, refuses to give part of herself to her sister Kate. Instead, he decides to sue her parents for the right to protect his own body.
8. 8. Anna's decision will have a profound and very serious
"Anna knows her parents will be angry with her, everyone will think she is selfish and bad," says the young actress Abigail Breslin, who plays Anna. "But there is more to his decision, she has her reasons."
But at the end of this case they do not know is that Kate is the one Fitzgerald is asking a favor to his sister Anne who was no longer where else to it, because all I wanted was the girl with leukemia and rest in peace peace and return to see his friend in the sky
My Comment and What I am going to do
In my opinion this is a movie very strong in the sense that they are actually doing difficult decisions, and has much to do with yourself, for your sake but also everything you do for your around, most people want, but when you realize that most people do not want everything in your life because you do not really want to be very difficult and if I were at this position would be very difficult for me to move on.
And so I stayed and took me here is that there is nothing to worry about small problems that happen to me, sometimes I can tell it is that ami because everything happens to me, but it really transcends other cases there is no reason to feel so, there to do by other people because I think both I do not know if there is someone who is going through worse and I think mine is the most difficult, and I think I should be more attentive to people around me and give always a smile.
