Irish music is known as the folklore that has remainedalive on the island of Ireland throughout the twentiethcentury, when many traditional forms of music aroundthe world switched to pop music. Although emigrationand a well-developed connection to the British andAmerican musical influences, Irish music has keptmany of its traditional aspects. It has also influencedmany musical forms of today, such as country in theUnited States.
It is believed that the songs andmelodies are ancestral (although inreality, many have less than 200 years).Only the modern songs are written inEnglish, with few exceptions, the rest arewritten in Irish.Most of the old themes, melodies, andmethods have rural origin, althoughthere are many modern topics that oftencome from cities and towns. Themelodies take the form of traditionaldances. The typical instruments are:bagpipes, bodhran, fiddle, tin whistleand / or Irish flute.
