Task 1 - Conventions of a portfolio website Task 1 - Conventions of a portfolio website Presentation Transcript

  •
  • This is a conventional portfolio homepage. The navigation bar is comprises of 2 things “work” & “about” showing that this navigation bar does not contain as much information as a standard website e.g. YouTube, IMDB etc. also there isn’t a lot of text making it easy and faster for the user to read and understand. The website does not have any “back links” (these are links which lead to other websites the less there are the harder it will be for a search engine to find them). It does not follow conventional layouts as it only has a header and main image Logo Navigation bar Main image & Main Text copyright
    • This website has a consistent house style
    • its house style is lined paper/ scrapbook with random doodles (comic)
    • Its primary colours are black and white adding to the sketchbook feel
    • Font is also consistent not confusing the user
  • There are very few pages on this website which is convenient for the user as it means that they can navigate their way through the website quickly . Examples of work are found easily by simply clicking on the “work” link in the navigation bar then following the links on this page. When you click on the images the image expands giving you a relatively large image of the homepage of the website he created or a image of a logo or graphic he has created
  • This is another portfolio website which uses flash content to entertain the audience whilst navigating through, the navigation buttons have 4 sections: “3D Works”, “Web Works”, “logos”, and “icons” each one of these shows an example of graphics and websites the designer has created. Again like most conventional portfolio websites there is not a lot of content in the navigation making it easy to explore the site also there is very little text meaning the user isn't stuck on one page for a long period of time and can just view the artwork quickly Links “twitter” Contact Information Logo Main image / Navigation Buttons Awards & Featured links copyright
    • The website has a consistent house style
    • White background
    • The boxes with ties are all different colours showing that its a different page
    • On every page the boxes with ties have shadows personifying them in a way
    • Text throughout is consistent
  • Navigation is used through a number of images on this website which as convenient for the user as they are not bombarded with masses of text which would probably bore them. Examples of work are found easily by simply clicking on the: 3D Works, Web works etc. link in the navigation bar then following the links on this page. When you click on the images the image expands or goes to the link its associated with giving you a relatively large image of the homepage of the website he created or a image of a logo or graphic he has created
  • This is an example of an unconventional portfolio website. It has poor navigation due to its small faint navigation bar in the top right corner, Contact information in the bottom left corner and link to the homepage in the bottom right all these would make it difficult if not nearly impossible for the user to find anything. The page is mostly dominated by cluttered images adding to the difficulty of finding something Background / main image Main Text Link - Twitter LOGO Link - Homepage
  • The house style for this website is poor almost each page is a different colour etc. The things that are consistent are the text. The heading is highlighted pink and the rest is highlighted grey, the font colour and font is also consistent
