A WEB-BASED APPLICATION
TO ASSIST STUDENTS IN
DEFINING PROJECT TOPICS
By: Mr. Phanuel S.K. Asense
(Systems Analyst, CoS)
Date:
Venue: Ibis Tek Board Room
Introduction
• Usually, most students find it a herculean task
in picking project topics and in so doing, tend
to expect project topics from their supervisors.
• It is in view of the abovementioned that this
system had been conceptually designed.
Project Phases
• Phase I : uploading of completed project work
by students
• Phase II : Querying the repository to identify
project topic(s)
Phase I : Content Upload
• This algorithm
outlines the
uploading of
contents into the
online repository
No
Yes
Start
Student signs in onto the web-based
portal. [NB. uses registration credentials]
logout of portal
upload
done?
Stop
Student uploads project onto
the repository
Repository
Phase II: Repository Querying
To fully utilize the repository, an application/ a module
is to be developed to optimize the use of the data
being gathered. This module will operate in two key
scenarios;
i. Student querying the repository with a defined
project topic (i.e. tentative) and seeking to finalize it
(i.e. query with a topic).
ii. Student querying the repository with his/her area of
discipline and interest and now tries to define the
project topic (i.e. query without a topic)
Stop
Specify topic and submit
Topic
available?
Read on topic and see
aspects to work on.
Pick topic
Yes
No
Specify area of discipline and
interest etc.
Topic(s)
available?
Stop
Read on topic(s) and
see aspects to work on.
Pick topic
No
Yes
Start
Tentative project topic?
Yes No
Advantages of the to-be System
i. will allow for quicker search for topics
ii. will allow for continuity on projects –i.e.
students have easy access to existing projects
and work on other aspects of it.
iii. can create room for collaboration
iv. will aid in the optimal use of the project
repository
v. will offer a monitoring platform for our
projects
Conclusion
I will like to acknowledge the contribution of
the CoS Liberian and wish that, the necessary
courtesies will be granted to see the
implementation of the concept.
End
Thank you
