  • KRITYANAND UNESCO CLUB, JAMSHEDPUR.OverviewThe Krityanand UNESCO Club was established in 1992, sincethen the organization has been expanding continuously in terms ofSocial development service. It has worked for the promotion ofSustainable, equitable and participatory development, socialwelfare and Social justice through: Program for Social work,Human Resources Management,Health service and other human service through social researchand dissemination of socially relevant knowledge, socialintervention through training and field action, contribution tosocial and welfare policy and program at state, National andInternational levels, over the years, the organization has amongothers (NGOs , societies) thrusts made a significant contribution toplanning, action strategies and Human Resource Development inseveral areas, ranging from sustainable rural and urbandevelopment to education, health ,Agriculture, and Human Rights,in all case ,the focus has been on the disadvantaged andmarginalized section of societies, such as women, children andtribal. 4
  • The Krityanand UNESCO Club has earned recognition as aninstitution (Organization) of repute from state Government ofJharkhand, India International agencies or organization such as theUnited Nations and its system, and various International NGOs.The organization contributing relevant education and Researchwork. In the year 1999-2000 the organization KrityanandUNESCO Club established its link directly to the UNITEDNATIONS and its systems office throughout the world and theorganization declare its work as “Non-GovernmentalOrganization/Non-Profit Organization “and the organizationregistered under section 12/A, of Income Tax Act, 1961,Government of India in the year 2001 and the organization alsoregistered under the Indian Societies Registration Act XXI of1860, Government of Jharkhand, India in 2004-05. 5

This objective is sought to be accomplishedby; To popularize the aims and purpose of the United Nations and its system and to promote its program and activities amongst the mass of society within India. To promote international understanding, peace and tolerance through education, science, culture and mass communication Organize program in the aims of social work, human resource management, Health system, culture and support the Research program Improving rural livelihoods and enhancing social and economic empowerment of the rural poor Developing organizations of the rural poor and producers to enable them to access and better negotiate services Playing a catalytic role in promoting Sustainable development and UN MDGs ( United Nations Millennium Development Goal) 7
  • Activities of the Krityanand UNESCO ClubKrityanand UNESCO Club, Jamshedpur is working in followingarea or sector.Promoting the aims and purpose of the United Nations and itssystem among the various societies of the different states in India,Organization is actively working for the social development ofRural and tribal communities,Working in Education, Health, Child, Women developmentprogram and Human Rights,Working with Universities throughout the world for socialdevelopment of poor communities for their better future inEducation, Health, Agriculture, Environment and Economicdevelopment and protect their Human Rights.Organizing the program in different areas for supporting theprogram for environmental protection and Agriculturedevelopment, conducting the Research program in social work and 8

Krityanand UNESCO Clubalso conducts and provides the research program/Internship andField Visit Programme for student of B.Tech / MBA / MA. /M.SW /PhD Researcher scholars under the organization’s chapters,Maintain a good library on United Nations system for membersand others, who are interested within the UN system, Maintaingood relationship with United Nations and its system among othersInternational NGOs.Our focus areas for Rural DevelopmentOur Rural Development Program aims to improve rural livelihoodoptions and works towards social and economic empowerment ofthe rural poor and women. The organization intervenes with thecommunity through the following themes or programmes:institution and capacity building, social development, andlivelihood, Education, Health and Family welfare, Sustainablelivelihood, Social causes. Our Rural Development programmecontributes to rural development and well being, including foodsecurity, health, employment, protection of the environment andmanagement of natural resources, thus encompassing a broadeducational approach to meet effectively and equitably the basic 9

It is a long-term involvement of 12-15 years, rooted in the community and inpartnership with the civil society, NGOs and the Government.Krityanand UNESCO Club consciously focuses on people groupsand areas in our country that are socio-economically vulnerable.Hence majority of our work in rural and isolated tribal areasspecially focus on the unreached, marginalized and disadvantagePeople.We focus on the needs of children tackling child mortality rates,their health, and education. Providing access to water for drinkingand agriculture, building food security and household resiliencethrough income generation, directly impacts the well being ofchildren. Every community is also sensitised on aspects ofenvironment, gender, persons with challenges, care for thevulnerable and peace building. The communities are involved indesigning and implementing the long term programme. 11
  • The chief aim of our Social Service is to empower the people sothat they can eventually own (meaning self-manage) theirdevelopment process. We seek to place ownership and resources inthe hands of the community based organizations (CBOs) and tobuild their capabilities.While this approach facilitates the sustainable transformationaldevelopment of the communities, the main focus of thisdevelopment is the well being of Society. The building up of thecommunity in this fashion facilitates the equitable development ofevery child in the community, bringing with it a promise of a lifefilled with dignity, justice, peace and hope.AdvocacyKrityanand UNESCO Club advocacy initiatives are focussed oncreating an environment - societal, legislative and temporal - thatfacilitates every girl and boy reaching his or her fullest potential.While rights awareness and rights education at the grass rootslevels help communities claim what is rightfully theirs, nationallevel advocacy around issues of children, especially those in crisis,are focussed on bringing about equitable implementation ofpolicies as well as influencing policy debates. 12

Progress was made in standardizing a predictableyear planning process, as well as in starting to build the capacity ofmembers and providing guidance on results, based planning andmonitoring, as well as the generation of lessons learned and bestpractices, will require further improvement. 13
  • Governing Council:Governance is the need of the hour in the development sector inorder to ensure and promote application of best managementpractices, compliance of law and adherence to best possible ethicalstandards. The entire management processes and practices ofKrityanand UNESCO Club are in compliance with theprinciples of GoodGovernance.The administration and financial control of Krityanand UNESCOClub is vested in the Governing Council which comprise of theHon’ble Chairman, Chairman Director General, Director, ProjectDirector, Program Officer, Joint Secretary General, Secretary andSecretary General. The Secretary General is the chief executive ofthe organization.Advisory BodyThe Board of Advisors comprises of technically competentpeople from diverse backgrounds and expertise. The body isformed for a period of one year and a few independent memberswith eminence and reputation are nominated each year.The Board of Advisors advises the Governing Council, takingregular update social development and Responsibilities of theorganization. 14
  • Procedure for Decision MakingOrganization Structure and RolesThe Krityanand UNESCO Club is led by its General Council, fromwhich a more functional Executive Committee has been formed fortaking all policy level decisions and advising the functionaries ofthe society on the management of the Krityanand UNESCO Club.The organization believes that the decision making is a key part ofan (administration) Administrative bodies activities, it permeatesthough all managerial function such as planning, organization,direction and control. Decision making involves thinking anddeciding before doing and its part of our function. In keep the viewof our organization’s objectives, policies, program and strategiesare our organization decision making process.Management Information System (MIS)A monthly MIS is prepared and analyzed by the MIS Officers andit is submitted and discussed in Executive Committee meetings forassessing the operational activities and to do future planning.People ManagementOur members are our assets. Krityanand UNESCO Club believesin a democratic and participatory work culture. Appraisal andreview system is conducted twice a year in a democratic way toidentify the future social leader of the organization. 15
  • Total Quality Management (TQM)TQM is our method of quality management involving many levelsand processes of different functions,1. Target:In TQM, the most important target to achieve is Quality of ourservice; Quality policy is set toward community. Meetingcommunitys needs mean satisfying every people requirement butnot trying to reach some quality standards set before. SocialService quality is one of the most important principles of ourTQM.2. Scope:To ensure the quality of service, our TQM system requires theextending of Social development process to service. It is alsonecessary for us to change the method of placing order to make itsuitable with the development process.3. Form:Instead of controlling the quality of the service, TQM sets up plansand programs to supervise and prevent problems right before theproduction process. Statistical tools are used to supervise,quantitatively analyze the results as well as factors affecting thequality, consider the reasons and take appropriate preventionmethods. 16
  • 4. Basis of TQM system:The basis of TQM practice in our organization is Human. Talkingabout quality, people usually think about the social service quality.But it is the quality of our members that is the main concern ofTQM. Of the three factors of our work, which are hard factor (ourinfrastructure), Soft factor (methods, secrets, information...) andHuman factor, Human is of the first concern to TQM.The basic principle for implementation of our TQM is that thequalification of our organization’s member is developed fully andintegratedly through training, delegation and assignment.5. Organization:TQM system is cross organized and functioned in order to manage,integratedly corporate with different activities of the system andfacilitate group working. The implementation of TQM is theparticipation of high and middle level Governing Councilcommittee. A proper organization will help duties to be assignedclearly.6. Management skills and tools:Methods to implement must be based on the principle "do correctlyat the very beginning", in researching and designing to minimizeeconomic cost. Strictly apply to make foundation for thecontinuous Social Service quality improvement. 17
