    • “ How was it handled?”

    • Initial steps following a crisis
    • Provide immediate and appropriate aid for those affected
    • Take measures (if necessary) to prevent further crisis
    • Contact family of affected persons
    • Compile initial comments for media

    • Have one person serve as media spokesperson
    • Ensures consistent, clear message
    • Spokesperson cannot go at it alone … he/she will need help in compiling information, messages

    • Conduct periodic news briefings
    • Avoid one-on-one interviews
    • Don’t go “off the record”

    • Three messages following a serious injury or accident
    • Express sincere concern for the injured and for others affected
    • Demonstrate that you are taking action to determine exactly what happened … how it happened … etc. (working with authorities)
    • Measures will be taken to ensure that such an incident does not occur again
