    • NSGIC Advocacy Agenda Initiative
    • Goal to build national transportation base layers for use by all levels of government
    • Complements & reinforces other current efforts to develop national framework data layers (e.g. IFTN)
  • 3. TFTN and USDOT
    • USDOT is a full partner in TFTN
      • Transportation Theme Lead for the NSDI
      • Produce and Maintain the National Transportation Atlas Databases (NTAD)
      • FHWA HPMS Program collecting data from State DOTs
      • Funding the Strategic Planning Effort
  • 4. Strategic Planning Effort
    • Identify and engage the entire stakeholder community
      • All levels of government
      • Private Sector
      • Open StreetMap
    • Define requirements, challenges and opportunities
    • Document progress already made, good ideas & challenge current assumptions
    • Explore implementation issues
    • Evaluate funding requirements and sources

    • Funds obligated and contractors selected in August 2009

      • Applied Geographics
    • USGS/Census sponsored meeting of federal stakeholders
    • Briefings at NGAC (12/2009) and TRB (1/2010)
    • Many delays, but the contract was awarded on 2/1/2010

    • Creation of a Steering Committee
    • Conduction of interviews, workshops, meetings, surveys, case studies, etc.
    • Identification of what’s working, what’s needed – current practices, requirements, strategies, standards, documentation
    • Identification of institutional constraints, capacity, operational authority, motivation, benefits, etc.
