A book is a version of
the world. If you do not like it,
ignore it; or offer your own
       version in return.
You should read books like
you take medicine, by advice, and
      not by advertisement.
The books that the world calls
immoral are the books that show the
      world its own shame.
Books are divided into two
    classes, the books
of the hour and the books
        of all time.
Read the best books first,
or you may not have a
chance to read them at all.
Reading is equivalent to
 thinking with someone else's
head instead of with one's own.
No tears in the writer,
no tears in the reader, period.
To learn to read is to
light a fire; every syllable that
is spelled out is a spark.
It is from books that wise
people derive consolation in
     the troubles of life.
The oldest books are still
only just out to those who
   have not read them.
In science read the newest works,
    in literature read the oldest.
Books are not made for
furniture, but there is nothing
   else that so beautifully
      furnishes a house.
A house without books is
like a body without a soul.
The best effect of any
book, is that it excites the
  reader to self-activity.
Next to acquiring good friends,
  the best acquisition is that
        of good books.
Be sure that you go to the
   author to get at his
meaning, not to find yours.
Read in order to live.
All the known world,
excepting only savage nations,
    is governed by books.
A good novel tells us the
truth about it's hero; but a bad
    novel tells us the truth
       about its author.
Books must be read as
deliberately and reservedly as
      they were written.
The worst thing about new
books is that they keep us
from reading the old ones.
No man understands a
deep book until he has seen
and lived at least part of
        its contents.
With one day's reading
a man may have the key in
        his hands.
There is no robber
worse than a bad book.
Every abridgement
of a good book is a fool
       abridged.
There was a time when the
world acted on books; now
 books act on the world.
There are very many
people who read simply to prevent
   themselves from thinking.
The things I want to know are
  in books; my best friend
is the man who will get me a
       book I ain't read.
Books are the bees which
carry the quickening pollen
 from one to another mind.
The multitude of books is
a great evil. There is no limit to
     this fever for writing.
Reading furnishes the
 mind only with material
   for knowledge; it is
thinking that makes what
      we read ours.
Camerado!
This is no book;
who touches this
 touches a man.
There is no such thing as
a moral book or an immoral book.
      Books are well written
or badly written. That is all.
To buy books would be a good
thing, if we also could buy
    the time to read them.
Books are like a mirror.
   If an ass looks in,
you can't expect an angel
       to look out.
If we encounter a man
     of rare intellect,
we should ask him what
     books he reads.
If a book comes from
the heart it will contrive to
    reach other hearts.
A book is a garden, an orchard,
a storehouse, a party, a counselor,
    a multitude of counselors.
A bad book is as much of a labor
     to write as a good one;
it comes as sincerely from the
         author's soul.
Books succeed,
 and lives fail.
Some books are to be tasted;
others to be swallowed; and some few
     to be chewed and digested.
A real book is not
one that we read, but one
      that reads us.
Thank You.

  • I would recommend Peter Church's book Added Value-the life stories of Indian business leaders. Amazing insight on some truly inspirational people. You should read this book not only because it was fantastically insightful and interesting in relation to the individuals but also gives the reader an incredibly helpful view of the mindset of the business leaders. The book is an excellent primer for anyone seeking to do business.
