    • Helen Burrey’sJournal. World War l - 1917
    • The Trenches… The trenches was full of terror; both from the opposing enemy and the diseases you could get while in the trenches.
    • Helen Burrey Helen Burrey was an army nurse during World War 1. She was one of the first nurses sent to France. Helen was born in Pittsburg in 1892; and of Irish decent. She eight brothers an sisters and only 2 survived into adulthood.
    •  She was 22 when she went to war. She worked in army base hospital No. 27 and was famous for the extremely graphic and factual entries in her journal. Helen described the filthy conditions of the trains and horrible conditions of the patients of war. She did everything from amputations, to just bandaging.
