  • 1. File Jockey usage analyzer and Management portal Marten Vosmer posted this on November, 2012 Note: your File Jockey version must at least be 1.4.0 before implementing the application described in this document. On the File Jockey server you may choose to enable File Jockey user activity logging and you may choose to enable Domino HTTP logging in the Domlog.nsf. These two databases contain valuable information about how File Jockey is used within your organisation. Lialis has created a tool that will analyse the Quickr and/or Connections File Jockey usage information in the File Jockey log and/or the Domlog databases (on File Jockey Domino servers) and will deliver a summary in a Management portal way. Please continue reading and I will explain all you need to know. The installation package is attached to this document. FileJockeyUsageAnalyzerv101 In the filejockey.nsf configuration you can enable user logging as illustrated below (if it’s not enabled yet). The dedicated log database file name may freely be chosen (for example dlog.nsf). After you restart the File Jockey Domino server HTTP task the log database will be created (design is based on log.ntf) and File Jockey user usage details for Connections, Quickr and/or Lotus Notes will be added when users use the File Jockey server. These usage details can be viewed under the views Usage by Data and Usage by User. In the Domino directory, File Jockey server document under Internet protocols, HTTP, Enable logging to Domlog.nsf may be set to Enabled (if its not enabled yet). Please enable this on every Domino File Jockey server. Restart the HTTP task to activate this setting if changed. The Domlog database will hold information on the URL's initiated by the File Jockey server to retrieve information from Connections or Quickr. Access to Lotus Notes databases is not logged in the Domlog. It's not mandatory to enable the Domlog logging. Marten Vosmer: +31 (6) 22473076 | marten.vosmer@lialis.com | http://www.file-jockey.com
  • 2. Carry out the following steps to setup the File Jockey usage analyzer and Management portal.       Please download the File Jockey usage analyzer (wua.nsf) from the link at the bottom of this page. Sign the wua.nsf using with your Notes ID on your administration client (to see the local files do file open server and type local). Open the wua.nsf file in your Lotus Notes (administration) client. Check the wua.nsf ACL, give administrators and servers groups manager access. Set default and anonymous to read access. In most cases the ACL set by Lialis is correct. Roles are not needed. Important, the wua.nsf will show information of all users, so you may consider to limit the rights to this database. Add a readers group to the ACL of this database where you grant others reader access to the browser management portal. Create a database copy of wua.nsf on a IBM Lotus Domino server, this may be (one of) the Domino File server(s) or any other server (do not create an OS file level copy because this can screw up the xpages design). You do not need to add this database to each File Jockey server if you have multiple File Jockey servers. When you install wua.nsf on a Domino server not holding the log files please make sure this Domino server can access the Domino server holding the log databases (via connections documents) and make sure this server is listed in the trusted servers field of the Domino servers holding the File Jockey and Domlog databases. The wua.nsf will run agents to retrieve the information from the log databases, so please double check the server's agent manager run time settings. The agent is now set to run once a day, feel free to change the agent run properties to change this interval. Open the wua.nsf and press 1. Configuration. Here you may select one or multiple File Jockey configuration, File Jockey log databases and Domlog databases. In the field DOMlog Base URL field you can enter one or multiple base URLS of the File Jockey WebDAV requests in the Domlog database. • 3. app3.lialis.com/servlet/webdav/connections/ app3.lialis.com/servlet/webdav/quickr/ You may add your company logo to be displayed in the Web portal and you may choose to set the colors of the Web portal banner. You may choose to delete the log documents from the File Jockey log and the Domlog databases after these are processed by WUA (advise is to do this) When all set please press the red button to start the agent (the button should get green). You may choose to sign this databases with the Domino server ID later on in order to run the agent under the Domino server ID. The agent should start within a few seconds and it will move the information from the log databases to this wua.nsf. The moved information will be analyzed, consolidated and finally displayed in this Notes database. The WUA will try to match the information found in the File Jockey log databases with the Domlog databases based on username. That is why you should upgrade to File Jockey version 1.4.0 for this match to work fine. In addition WUA will identify the inactive File Jockey users. In addition the wua.nsf information can also be displayed in the internet browser by opening the database in the browser, for example https://server.client.com/wua.nsf. This page is using xpages. It is advisable to replicate wua.nsf to a Domino server inside the LAN. In addition please make sure your Domino server is running version 853. The agent in wua.nsf must run on the File Jockey server where the log databases are stored. Marten Vosmer: +31 (6) 22473076 | marten.vosmer@lialis.com | http://www.file-jockey.com
