    • General Information  Federative Republic of Brazil.  The capital is Brasília and the largest city is São Paulo.  It is the largest country in both South America and the Latin American region.  It is the world's fifth largest country, both by geographical area and by population.  It is the largest Lusophone ( speaks Portuguese language ) country in the world, and the only one in the Americas.
    •  It has borders with Venezuela, Guyana (N), Colombia (NW), Bolivia (W), Argentina (SW) and Uruguay (W).  The Brazilian economy is the world's seventh largest by nominal GDP (Gross domestic product).  Famous for producing coffee, sugar, alcohol, soy and metal.
    • Demographics of Brazil •The population of Brazil was approximately 190 million in 2008 and now its above 200 million. •Heavily concentrated in the Southeastern region (79.8 million inhabitants) •And Northeastern region (53.5 million inhabitants) •Center-West and the North (have a total of only 29.1 million inhabitants )
    • Race and ethnicity •About 92 million described themselves as White •About 83 million as Brown (Multiracial) •About 13 million as Black •About 1.1 million as Asian •About 536 thousand as Amerindian (officially called, Indigenous)
    • Religion in Brazil •Brazil has the world's largest Catholic population Christ the Redeemer is a monument depicting Jesus Christ in the city of Rio de Janeiro, has become one of the most internationally known icons of Brazil.
    • Language & culture  The official language of Brazil is Portuguese.  Brazilian Portuguese has had its own development - get some influences from the Amerindian and African languages.  The core culture of Brazil is derived from Portuguese culture (strong colonial ties with the Portuguese empire).
    • Music & Food  Music was formed mainly from the fusion of European and African elements.  Popular music forms a special Brazilian sound. E.g Samba: it is the most popular music there, and it is now in UNESCO cultural heritage list.  Brazilian cuisine varies greatly by region, reflecting the country's varying mix of indigenous and immigrant populations.  The average meal consists mostly of rice, beans and meat with salad.
    • Feijoada, considered the country's national dish pacoca, is traditionally prepared for consumption in Brazil in the festivities of Holy Week
