Evaluation activity 7

  1. 1. LOOKING BACK AT YOURPRELIMINARY TASK, WHAT DO YOUFEEL YOU HAVE LEARNT IN THEPROGRESSION FROM IT TO THE FULLPRODUCT?
  2. 2. • FROM OUR PRELIMINARY TASK, WE GAINED ENOUGH KNOWLEDGE ON HOW TO USE CAMERASHOTS AFFECTIVELY IN THE RIGHT CONTEXT. FOR EXAMPLE THE 180 DEGREE RULE, MATCH ONACTION AND REVERSE SHOT. THE 180 DEGREE RULE WAS A RULE WE ABIDED BY IN OUR FINALTHRILLER OPENING AND WE MADE SURE WE DIDN’T BREAK THIS RULE WHILST FILMING.We had to film the protagonist crossingthe road in order to maintain the 180degree rule as we couldn’t jump straightinto recording from the other side of theroad
  3. 3. • I FEEL THAT WE WERE FAR BETTER IN INCLUDING VARIOUS CAMERA SHOTS IN OUR THRILLEROPENING AS OPPOSED TO OUR PRELIMINARY TASK. EXAMPLES OF THIS INCLUDE: A POINT OFVIEW SHOT, CLOSE UP AND TRACKING SHOT. THESE WERE THE MAJORITY OF SHOTS WE WEREUNEXPERIENCED WITH USING, HOWEVER WHEN IT ACTUALLY CAME TO FILMING WE LEARNTHOW TO USE THESE EFFECTIVELY.POV SHOT TRACKING SHOT CLOSE UP
  4. 4. • OUR EDITING IN OUR FINAL THRILLER WAS FAR BETTER THAN THE EDITING DONE IN OURPRELIMINARY TASK. WE USED MORE EDITING TOOLS WHICH WERE VERY EFFECTIVE IN MEETINGGENERIC THRILLER CONVENTIONS, FOR EXAMPLE A TENSE SOUNDTRACK – SOMETHING WEDIDN’T INCLUDE IN OUR PRELIMINARY TASK. WE WERE ALSO TO CREATE A FAR BETTER TITLEAND MAKE IT FIT INTO THE BACKGROUND; THE TITLE IN OUR PRELIMINARY TASK WAS TOO PLAINAND STOOD OUT LESS
  5. 5. • ANOTHER ASPECT OF OUR THRILLER OPENING THAT I FELT WAS BETTER THAN OUR PRELIMINARYTASK IS OUR PRODUCTION COMPANY LOGO. OUR PRODUCTION LOGO FOR OURPRELIMINARY TASK WAS FAR TOO SIMPLE AND IT DIDN’T LOOK EXCITING OR ATTENTIONGRABBING. HOWEVER IN OUR THRILLER OPENING WE MANAGED TO CREATE A PRODUCTIONLOGO ON ADOBE FLASH AND THIS ENABLED US TO CREATE AN INTERESTING LOGO WHICHINCLUDED MORE EFFECTS AND A CRISPER FONT TO MAKE IT STAND OUT.
  6. 6. BECAUSE WE DIDN’T HAVE A CLEAR SCRIPT IN OUR PRELIMINARY TASK WE WEREN’T ABLE TOCREATE AN INTERESTING SCENE. WE ALSO HAD TO FILM A NUMBER OF TIMES TO GET THECORRECT PIECE OF FOOTAGE WE WANTED. HOWEVER, USING A SCRIPT IN OUR THRILLEROPENING MADE A VAST DIFFERENCE AND MADE THIS MORE EFFICIENT AND CLEAR TO FILM. BYPLANNING OUT COSTUME, SOUND AND LOCATION WE WERE ABLE TO CREATE CONVENTIONS TOMEET THE THRILLER GENRE.
  7. 7. • I THINK THAT MY USE OF CAMERA SHOTS HAS GREATLY IMPROVED AS I AM NOW ABLE TO USETHEM EFFECTIVELY TO CREATE MEANING. I ALSO NOW FEEL MORE CONFIDENT WITH THE USE OFEQUIPMENT (E.G. DOLLY, TRIPOD AND LIGHTING) AND KNOW WHEN TO USE THEM IN SPECIFICSHOTS. FOR EXAMPLE I WOULD USE A DOLLY WHEN THERE’S A TRACKING SHOT IN ORDER TOHAVE A STEADY FOOTAGE.
  8. 8. • I FEEL OUR END PRODUCT IS VERY SUCCESSFUL IN FULFILLING THE TASK SET. OUR RESEARCHAND PLANNING ENABLED US TO HAVE A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF HOW TO CREATE ATHRILLER FILM WHICH WOULD EXCITE AN AUDIENCE. IN PARTICULAR, WE WERE ABLE TOINCLUDE A SOUNDTRACK TO CREATE A SENSE OF TENSION (A GENERIC THRILLER CONVENTION)TO KEEP THE AUDIENCE ON EDGE DURING THE WHOLE OF THE OPENING SEQUENCE.• OVERALL, MY SKILLS WITH USING EQUIPMENT AND DIFFERENT TECHNOLOGIES HAVE CERTAINLYIMPROVED SINCE THE PRELIMINARY TASK AND I NOW FEEL AS THOUGH I HAVE A BETTERUNDERSTANDING OF USING THEM.
