Mac error code 1407 prohibits users to copy, move or drag files from their Mac OS X to external hard drive. The most common cause behind this error is corrupt Mac OS X, however, there are other causes as well. Error message you receive on your monitor screen would be:

The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code – 1407)

Follow the solutions given below to fix this error.


Reboot Mac OS X:
First of all try re-booting Mac OS X to fix Mac error code 1407. The problem can be resolved by rebooting the system. Follow the steps given below to reboot your Mac.

· Click Apple menu button
· Select Restart
· You will be prompted to a dialog
· The dialog box needs confirmation for system restart
· Click Yes to reboot your Mac OS X

Run disk repair utility:
Mac Error code 1407 can be resolved by running disk repair utility. Mac OS X provides multiple options to repair disk through disk repair utility. These options include OS X Recovery System and OS X Internet Recovery. Follow the steps given below to run OS X recovery system:

· Insert your Mac installation disk and restart system
· Hold C key while system is rebooting
· Select Disk Utility from installer menu
· Now click First Aid tab
· Click Disclosure Triangle (You will see names of your hard disk volumes and partitions)
· Select volume of your OS X
· Click Repair (Now Disk Utility examine and repair the disk)

First unlock files, folders and then delete:
Another problem while deleting, moving or dragging folders from Mac OS X to some external drive is locked files, folders. Locked files/folders cannot be deleted, moved or dragged, so first unlock files/folders and then delete.

Follow the steps given below to unlock and delete the files/folders:

First solution:
First of all try the solution given below:

· Select the file or folder you need to delete
· Select File menu and then Get Info
· Uncheck locked box if it is checked
· Now try deleting file/folder

Second solutions:

If the above solution would not work for you try the solution given below:

· Go to Applications | Utilities and then open Terminal
· Type following command in Terminal:
sudo chflags –R nouchg
· Now drag and drop the file/folder in Terminal window which you want to unlock
· Press Return | Enter password if you would be prompted and then press Return


Reformat internal system hard drive:
Formatting internal system hard drive can resolve Mac error code 1407. Follow the steps given below to do so:

· Insert Mac OS X installation disk
· Restart Mac by holding C key
· Double click Install Mac OS X icon
· You can save existing files and settings to archive and Install or
· Save them to Preserve Users and Network Settings
· You can also erase everything by selecting Erase and Install
· Follow the on screen wizard for reformatting internal system hard drive
