What is the Extended Essay? An independent, self-directed college-level research investigation An opportunity to study a topic of interest in-depth Preparation for college research for school or own use A core IB requirement – necessary to achieve your Diploma (Your EE grade is combined with your TOK grade to award points toward your Diploma (0-3 points)) 4,000 words (about 15 pages)

How to Choose a Successful Extended Essay TopicTips: Begin with broad areas of interest and brainstorm. Think about topics you would like to investigate. Will the topic hold your interest for several weeks or months? Is the topic something you already know but can build upon? Is there enough information to produce a 4000 word essay?
