6. HOW TO APPLY FOR A VISA
F-1 visa students, scholar
• Requirements
a student visa applicant must demonstrate the following:
• that you have been accepted into the school or educational institution
• that has the sufficient resources to cover the proposed studies
• that is prepared for the course or study proposed
• that has intentions to leave the United States once you have finished their studies at
• least that trip to participate exclusively in a program of study of the English language,
sufficient knowledge of the English language that allow him to study the proposed course.

8. Validity of the Visa
student visas for the Colombian citizens are granted for up to five years, depending on the duration of
the program.
Family members of the
spouses and children under 21 years of age may request and receive visas F-2 or M-2 to accompany
or join the principal applicant in the United States. The dependents receive the same validity of the
visa that the principal applicant.
Employment as a student
Students with visa F can work while studying under certain conditions and with a permit issued by the
Department of Homeland Security. Students who have F or M visas can work after you have finished
your studies under three different practical training programs (curriculum, optional, or STEM (science,
technology, engineering and mathematics).
Tourism
If you plan to travel to the United States mainly in sightseeing trip but you want to take a short course
of recreational nature, time and whose intensity is less than 18 hours per week, you can do it with a
