What is a mashup?
A digital mashup is a digital media file containing any or all of text, graphics, audio, video and animation drawn from pre-existing sources, to create a new derivative work

Achieved using RSS, APIs (Application Programming Interface), widgets, gadgets, ‘stuff’
Purists say if you use “glue stick’” it is not a mashup, e.g. simply adding a Flickr ‘widget’ to your blog or using a start page
If you use “glue logic” it is a mashup e.g. Yahoo Pipes to combine feeds and sources, filter, process/transform

Issues affecting mashups
A mashup is only as good as:
the data and information from which it is compiled
may need to clean up your data
how up to date is the data?
how accurate is the data?
the programming and processes involved in the mashup
e.g. are towns and cities being put in the right country
Copyright issues
legal and free data may be quite old e.g. post code database
check T&Cs and licenses before you use data in your mashup
