  4. 4. Dissemination and implementation planfor dissemination of SDI-EDU resultsTOPICS TO BE COVEREDThe SDI-EDU project aims to transfer former experience from EU research projects dealingwith education in SDI spatial planning as Humboldt and Naturnet Redime towards planners inEuropean Regions and municipalities. The project will use innovative educational methods ofNaturnet Redime project combining methods of distance vocational training, e-learning andknowledge sharing that will allow transfer the experience and that will teach how to deal withSDI for spatial planning for real users. Project will also transfer newest research results fromHumboldt and transfer it into research courses.TARGET GROUPSSDI-EDU will develop training environment supporting • spatial planners • architectsin utilisation of Spatial Data Infrastructure. The training environment produced will demonstrate the utility of our approach fordeveloping educational programmes that will increase understanding of SDI building onboth local and regional level and the tools used to make decisions that affect regionaldevelopment. As recognized by the SDI, this increased understanding will allow moreinformed and equitable planning.INVOLVEMENT AND FEEDBACK OF TARGET GROUPSSDI-EDU is based on a bottom-up approach. An important part of the communication plan isthe involvement and feedback of target groups to define their requirements and to validate theproject results. This includes project partners of SDI-EDU as well as external institutions andother private and public users and target groups. Communication with those groups will takeplace via questionnaires, papers and articles, internet and mainly via events (workshops, seminars, professional education events, vocational trainings). An important role of the dissemination activities is validation of project results. The aim ofthe validation is to ensure and to raise the quality of the SDI-EDU products. Several questionscan be identified concerning validation: • Who is addressed by the SDI-EDU products and what are their interests? • Who has to be involved for further activities to ensure sustainability of the SDI-EDU results? 4/10
  5. 5. Dissemination and implementation planfor dissemination of SDI-EDU resultsThe mentioned targets groups and have specific interests in the field of spatial datainfrastructure. The SDI-EDU results should be communicated in the way that fits to the needsof the target users.DISSEMINATION AND COMMUNICATION STRATEGYThe Dissemination and Communication Strategy includes several interconnected objectives. Itaims at providing information about project issues and project results for the project partnersand supplying each project partner with feedback of the other partners and the target groups,as well as informing broader public and possible future users of the ongoing project results. Fig. 1: SDI-EDU’s Communication practicesPRESS RELEASEA press release should be sent to journalists to announce something new. The press releaseshould be simple, well written and written in the journalists‘language and be no longer thenone A4 page. This press release should focus on: • the main objectives of our project and the rationale; • planned end results and how we will contribute to stimulating innovation and competitiveness through wider uptake and best use of ICT for national, regional or local administrations, business, citizens and other relevant stakeholders;and it should also refer to: • the consortium; • on how more information could be obtained. 5/10
  6. 6. Dissemination and implementation planfor dissemination of SDI-EDU resultsSDI-EDU WEBSITESDI-EDU website will provide the prime online access point to the project and it will be theproject public showcase to external institutions. This website will be used as a prime publicdissemination tool, making available the content derived from the project output such aspresentations, publications and demonstrations. The website will provide updated news on theprogress of work packages. The website will also provide private access to a collaborativework environment where members of the consortium will build the knowledge concerning theproject to maximize the synergies between different partners in the implementation of thevarious work packages. Fig. 2: SDI-EDU website is currently available at http://sdi-edu.zcu.czSDI-EDU GEOPORTALSDI-EDU Geoportal is a package of applications that allows you to work with maps in webenvironment based on OGC Web Services. The geoportal will be accessible at: http://portal.sdi-edu.zcu.czCatalogueThe catalogue client allows you to search metadata using OGC CSW. There is a possibility toshow the detail information of the record. 6/10
  7. 7. Dissemination and implementation planfor dissemination of SDI-EDU resultsMapThe map client allows to view maps based on OGC Web Services and other formats (Googlemaps, KML, MapServer, GML).Basic functions: • Viewing web services (OGC WMS, WFS) selected by user from the catalogue or directly by address. • Saving user defined map project on local hard drive a re-loading of this saved composition (OGC WMC) • Distance and area measurements. • Searching in maps. • Inserting user defined objects into map. • Large format printing in PDF.Showing legends, metadata and querying in map.PROJECT WORKSHOPS FOR COLLECTING OF USER REQUIREMENTSAn important part of work will be to analyse the current SDI in project regions, which willdefine needs for training and transfer of experience. This will be done on the base of localworkshops. There will be at least one workshop in each project country.GENERAL PUBLICATIONSWithin the project we should create dissemination material such as brochures or leaflets fortheir dissemination activities. The aim of general publications is to maximize the awareness ofthe project for the general public, promotion of the SDI-EDU project, its vision and concept.SCIENTIFIC PUBLICATIONSScientific publications presenting technical aspects and solutions of the project should bedisseminated in peer-reviewed conferences, journals, books.KEEP UP COMMUNICATIONCommunication activities should not stop once the project has finished. We will keep up ourcommunication channels for some time after the project end. The minimum option would beto maintain and update project website, but we should decide to be also more pro-active.Further communication activities can be envisaged, like press releases on follow-up activities. Not only will it give visibility to the great work, it also can generate follow-up interest andbusiness opportunities. 7/10
  8. 8. Dissemination and implementation planfor dissemination of SDI-EDU resultsGENERAL OBLIGATIONSBeing our project funded by the European Community any communication or publicationmaterial (including e.g. reports, presentations, promotional material, publications) mustclearly acknowledge receipt of Community funding through the display of a respectivestatement and the EU flag. Please ensure that this acknowledgement of funding and the EUflag is added prominently to all relevant documents. Fig. 3: The flag of LLPThe following statement should be also a mandatory part of all dissemination materials:This project has been funded with support from the European Commission. This publication[communication] reflects the views only of the author, and the Commission cannot be heldresponsible for any use which may be made of the information contained therein.DISSEMINATION AND COMMUNICATION TOOLSThe projects key communications tool is the website. The SDI-EDU website will includeinformation which can be publicly disclosed, including general descriptions, presentations, publications and reports. Next, the main SDI-EDU dissemination and communication toolsaim at providing information about project issues and project results for the project partnersand supplying each project partner with feedback of the other partners and the target groups,as well as informing broader public and possible future users of the ongoing project results. This goal will be followed during the course of the project by coordinated actions, including: • Singular events o Workshops with target groups, providing feedback to WP-results o Additional dissemination and validation workshops according to necessity • Recurring events and regularly processed information o Internal communication and exchange at SDI-EDU project meetings o Project website (with calendar of events, documents and articles) • Supportive actions o SDI-EDU (corporate) identity: templates for presentations, publications, etc.SDI-EDU PROJECT MEETINGSThe following project meeting are foreseen: 8/10
