  3. 3. 1836 – INVENTION OF THE TELEGRAPH The telegraph allowed people to communicate quickly over long distances. Prior to the telegraph people had to rely on letter which might take weeks or even months to get from on place to another. Next Timeline
  4. 4. 1876 - INVENTION OF THE TELEPHONE  Alexander Graham Bell introduced the first telephone.  It required an operator to connect the lines. Timeline
  5. 5. 1969 – THE INTERNET BEGINS The Internet began as Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET) The development was funded by the U.S. Department of Defense. Timeline
  6. 6. 1971 – THE FIRST EMAIL IS SENT The first email was sent by Ray Tomlinson from one computer to the other. Tomlinson was the first to use the @ symbol. Timeline

  9. 9. 1991 – WWW-DOT WEB ADDRESSES What does www stand for? World Wide Web With the launch of www-dot web addresses, browsing and posting to the Internet became standardized. Developers embraced open-source code that could be shared to create a greater web of information. Timeline
  10. 10. 1998 - GOOGLE  Many search engines came before Google, but they entered the Internet with a great product.  From the beginning, Google has provided quick and relevant search results. Next Timeline
  11. 11.  Today Google does much more than search by key term. It allows you to easily search imagines, news and shopping. Google as has developed several web-based applications – from Google Docs to Web developer tools. Timeline
  12. 12. 2004 - FACEBOOK Facebook was started as a school project in 2004. The site was designed as a directory for college students. Today more than 750 million people are on Facebook. That’s more than twice the population of the U.S. Timeline
  13. 13. 2005 - YOUTUBE  YouTube was launched in 2005 as a site to share videos.  Users share video tutorials, music videos, funny videos, and more. Next Timeline
  14. 14. 2007 - IPHONE  Apply introduced the iPhone in 2007.  Prior to the iPhone, Blackberry was the primary data phone. It was mostly used by business people.  iPhone has expanded the use of the Internet to anytime, anywhere. Timeline
