Inventions <ul><li>I nventing and building the world's first successful airplane </li></ul><ul><li>M aking the first controlled, powered and sustained heavier-than-air human flight , on December 17, 1903 </li></ul><ul><li>T he brothers developed their flying machine into the first practical fixed-wing aircraft </li></ul><ul><li>T he Flyer, especially by 1905, was the first heavier-than-air, manned, powered, winged machine to fly successfully under full control, using aerodynamic principles developed by the Wright brothers and applied since then on all practical airplanes. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Wilbur Wright <ul><li>Born- April 16, 1867 </li></ul><ul><li>Died-May 30, 1912 (age 45) in typhoid fever </li></ul><ul><li>1886 winter- accident </li></ul><ul><li>Faught for their patent rights until his death </li></ul>

Orville Wright <ul><li>Born August 19, 1871 </li></ul><ul><li>Died January 30, 1948( aged 76) after his second heart attack </li></ul><ul><li>Started his own printing business </li></ul><ul><li>Sold their company in 1915 </li></ul><ul><li>1930- recieved the first Daniel Guggenheim Medal </li></ul><ul><li>1936- was elected a member of the National Academy of Science </li></ul>

Gliders <ul><li>1900- Wilbur lifted from the ground very little, wing-warping testing </li></ul><ul><li>1901- a flat landing, adverse yaw problem </li></ul><ul><li>1902- 1)longer and narrower wings </li></ul><ul><li>2)they made the airfoil flatter by reducing the camber </li></ul><ul><li>3)the purpose of movable vertical rudder 4)“well digging” problem </li></ul><ul><li>5)the longest flight lasted 26seconds and covered 189,7 metres. </li></ul>
