  • bount yvirt ualsupport .com http://www.bountyvirtualsupport.com/blog-posts-from-preparation-to-promotion-part-4-or-4/ BLOG POSTS – FROM PREPARATION TO PROMOTION – PART 4 OR 4 - Bounty Virtual Support How To Promote Your Blog Post – Part 4 of 4 This is part 4 of my blog post series. If you want to take a look at parts 1, 2 and 3 then click on the f ollowing links: PART 1: Before You Put Pen To Paper PART 2: So What Is Great Content Anyway? PART 3: Blog Post Diversity & My 9 Step Editing Process You have written your blog post and checked to see that everything is just right so now it is time to publish and hopef ully attract the attention of your intended audience. So how do you get the attention of your intended audience? Well, you take your new blog post to them by using a f ew (or all) of the promotional tactics that I have listed below. Promotion Essentials The 8 points listed below are what I consider to be essential steps f or promoting your blog post. 1. Optimize the blog post with strategically placed keywords. The placement of keywords and other SEO
  • techniques should really be done bef ore you publish your blog post. Take a look at Point 6 in Part 1 in this Blog Post Series f or a more detailed look at keyword research. The All In One SEO Pack Plugin f or WordPress is a must have f or your WordPress site that gives you a checklist to go through f or all of your content. The other popular plugin I like to use which may be overkill is the WordPress SEO Plugin f rom Yoast. So take your pick and add one or both to your website so you tick all the boxes to ensure your blog post is f ully optimised. 2. Syndicate your Blog with your social media accounts. Setup your blog so that every time you publish a blog post it will be automatically sent to your social media sites. Again, this step should also be set up bef ore you start your blog. The plugin that I use is NextScripts: Social Networks Auto-Poster f rom NextScripts. Setup the NextScripts plugin bef ore you start your blog and have it connected to all of your social media accounts so that your blog posts will be automatically sent out. 3. Status Updates on social media. Don’t stop at automatically sending your blog posts to your social media accounts. Go to each of your social media accounts and write some extra commentary and link back to your blog post to mix it up a bit. You can do this 3-4 times on each platf orm over the next f ew days. Hootsuite is a great utility f or this type of work as it keeps all (or most) of your social media accounts in one place. You can even program a set of status updates to be published at dif f erent f uture dates and times. Another point I want to make here is that if you engaged with people on social media in your research and preparation phase, then contact those people about their inclusion in your blog post. My experience has been that everyone will come and check out your blog post and share it with their social media networks. It’s a win/win f or you and the people you included. 4. Search social media platforms for people looking for answers that relate to your blog post. Still on social media, use the search f unctions on each platf orm to look f or people who need answers that your blog post can provide. This is an excellent way to personally reach out to new people who may be interested in what your business of f ers. However, don’t bombard them with your f abulous blog post as the whole point of social media is about building trust and relationships. Think of this technique as a medium to long term project and not as a quick advertising or marketing campaign. Building relationships is key here. 5. Comment on other blogs. Commenting on other blogs is another great way to develop relationships with other bloggers in your industry and with their audience. Blogging is another f orm of social media so the same rules apply when you engage with other blogs. Do a quick Google search on the keywords of your blog with the timef rame of the past 24 hours and click on the results most relevant to your blog post. Comment on the blog posts that will place you in the f irst 10 comments and remember to provide a link back to your blog post. Also make sure that your comments are relevant, helpf ul and worthy of publication. 6. Add a link to your blog post to your next eNewsletter. This is f airly self -explanatory and all you do f or the next eNewsletter you send out to your email list, add a link back to your blog post with the headline and a teaser.
  • 7. Add a link to your latest blog post in your email signature. If you have an email signature set up, all you need to do here is edit your website link with your latest blog post link. 8. Share your blog post via email to your targeted email list. Eight More Ideas to Further Promote and Stretch Your Blog Post The f irst eight tips are essential actions f or every blog post you publish. The next eight tips are a combination of promoting your blog post and re-purposing it to get more bang f or your buck. 1. Post your images to Pinterest. Hopef ully you have added some really f unky and relevant images to your blog post that adds extra depth and interest to the overall layout. Now take those images and upload them to your Pinterest account. Add your headline and a teaser with a link back to your blog post. Do this with all of the images that you think Pinterest users will like and hopef ully re-pin. 2. Turn your blog post into a PDF file and post to SlideShare. Okay, I love SlideShare and f or me it is a perf ect marketing platf orm f or B2B companies. SlideShare is a social media platf orm that allows its users to upload PowerPoint presentations and PDF documents. With that in mind you can turn your blog post into a PDF f ile and upload it straight to Slideshare without needing to change the post in anyway. 3. Recreate your blog post into a PowerPoint Presentation and post to SlideShare. This is a great way to re-purpose your blog post and make it stretch f urther. All you need to do is take the main points of your blog post and create a visually pleasing PowerPoint presentation. Upload it to your Slideshare account, add your headline, a link back to your post, a teaser and watch it go viral. The more creative your presentation they more it will get shared with other users. 4. Turn your Powerpoint presentation into a video and post to YouTube. Now that you have created your PowerPoint presentation f rom your blog post, why not turn it into a
  • video and upload it to YouTube. 5. Recreate your blog post into an infographic and post to your social media accounts. This is a similar technique to Point 11 and it’s another great way to re-purpose your blog post. Inf ographics are traditionally created and used to help simplif y complex data and statistics. However, recently a new breed of inf ographics has been popping up here and there. This new style is being applied to list inf ormation, instructional inf ormation and comparative inf ormation. If you are f eeling creative then give it a go and upload your inf ographics to your social media accounts and even write a new blog post about it. Remember, images are the most shared items on the internet. Hubspot have 2 f antastic articles with templates to help you create your own visually stunning inf ographics. Here are the links: The Marketer’s Simple Guide to Creating Inf ographics in PowerPoint 5 Inf ographics to Teach You How to Easily Create Inf ographics in PowerPoint [+ TEMPLATES] 6. Talk about your blog post and turn it into a Podcast. Podcasts are another way that you can re-purpose your blog posts and reach people who are predominantly auditory learners. You can either create them by doing an interview with someone or simply on your own. 7. Organise a blog post exchange with your strategic business alliances. The idea here is f or you to arrange with a f ew of your business f riends to exchange blog posts so that you can all spread your reach to each other’s audiences. Strategic business alliances are about setting up small networks of businesses whose services complement one another and in a collaborative ef f ort f or f urther growth and opportunities. 8. Create a few quote images and post to your social media sites. I love this promotional idea f or its simplicity and speed to create and share on social media accounts. The best social media platf orms f or this technique are Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook and Google Plus. What you do is grab a f ew bites of text f rom your blog post and turn them into image quotes. 1. Go to Compf ight and search f or some creative commons images to download. Don’t f orget to attribute the images back to their source. 2. Upload one of the images to your f avourite image editor such as Photoshop, GIMP, or my f avourite f or this technique Pixlr Express. 3. Edit the image to your desired ef f ects and then add your text quote f rom your blog post. 4. Save the quote image onto your PC and then upload it to your social media accounts with a teaser and link back to your blog post. 5. Rinse and repeat. The 16 ideas listed above are just a starting point f or promoting your blog posts and even if you only select a f ew of the above promotion tactics you are well on the way to creating a buzz around your business blog. The idea here is to be creative, try dif f erent techniques and stick to the ones that work best f or your business. Below is a list of resources f rom other websites to help you create the perf ect promotional strategy f or your blog. This completes my 4 part series of ‘Blog Posts – From Preparation to Promotion’. I hope you enjoyed it and f ound the inf ormation usef ul.
