Dayton coal and iron company

  1. 1.  In 2009, the Friends of the Cumberland Trail (F.C.T.), Inc. received $24,000 in federal funding for survey and research of historic resources associated with the Dayton Coal and Iron Company at Laurel Snow State Natural Area and adjoining properties.  The grant was matched with $16,000 in cash, in-kind labor, equipment, and materials.  Project activities for phase I included an archaeological pedestrian survey, GIS mapping, oral histories, research, and a written report.  Final report to completed in September 2012.  Next phases will include NR Nomination and Preservation and Management Plan.
