  • 3. Reading • Reader’s Workshop model in class • Individual conferences and DRA’s • Monthly reading logs- 400 minutes • Quarterly book projects • Book clubs and small groups
  • 4. Writing • Writer’s workshop model in class • 6 stages of the writing process • Individual conferences and peer editing • Grading- 6+1 traits of Writing • Styles of writing
  • 5. Math • Study Island and Fast Math • Common Core aligned- more rigorous • Workshop Wednesdays- small group/centers • Other 4 days- structure • District based assessments
  • 6. Science • Alternate units with Social Studies • Hands-on lessons and experiments • District based assessments • Science city field trip- Space • Units include: space, matter, food chains, plants
  • 7. Social Studies • Alternates with science • Interactive units and lessons • Teacher-written assessments • Units include: map skills, government, continents/oceans, Lewis & Clark
  • 8. Spelling • Rebecca Sitton Spelling Program • Mondays- Words to learn sheet – Use for nightly homework • Tests on Friday (in-text and solitary) • Skill practice/lessons in class
  • 9. Homework • Assignment notebooks- parent signature • Shouldn’t last more than 45 minutes – Including 20 minutes or reading • Late work- Missing work policy • Mondays-Thursdays (math and spelling)
  • 10. Classroom Management • BIST: district-wide behavior system • Classroom incentive: tickets (earn & lose) • Classroom Dojo- computer based tool • Think sheets/notes home • School-wide system with JAG paws
