Internet services market offers a huge opportunity to Nokia. There are many ways of measuring the size of this market but no matter how you look at it, it’s huge. According to our own and analyst forecasts, we expect the addressable services market to reach 100 billion euros in 2010. While we haven't communicated any specific revenue targets for our services activities, it’s obvious that we expect to reach multi-billion euro levels in the next few years. To fully exploit the market potential, we have to ensure that the services and devices are fully integrated to offer the best possible ease of use and consumer experience. The mobile device (with high quality cameras, video viewing and always-on wireless broadband connection) will become the main way for people to participate in these communities. What Nokia brings to the mobile internet is the importance of context information: where you are, who are you with, what are you doing right now. B y bringing context to internet services, we enable next wave of innovation. When services can be linked to time, place and people, we can see completely new services emerging. The new Nokia businesses – consumer Internet services and business solutions – use our device business as a launch pad. That means the new businesses build on our device enablers and market presence for acceleration and competitive advantage. We scale these new businesses as fast as possible to the entire Nokia device range. In selected areas these new business aspire also value creation on non-Nokia devices. (The new Nokia businesses – consumer Internet services and business solutions – have a different strategy from devices. Their business model is different, monetization logic is different, and channel and go-to-market approach is different. However, organizationally and operationally Nokia businesses enjoy positive interdependencies, and thus form integrated business logic for Nokia. Device business is a great competitive advantage for these new businesses as distribution platform and when successful, the new businesses contribute significantly to differentiation and retention in device business.)

This slide is not meant to express pessimism. Quite to the contrary, from the Nokia perspective, I view this as a measure of great potential opportunity. Forum Nokia will be instrumental in growing these numbers around the globe. Forum Nokia is putting a lot of evangelization and business development energy behind Flash Lite. Forum Nokia has specific targets for identifying a number trophy applications and bringing them into the Nokia system in this half. This means that there is real opportunity today for companies and Flash Lite developers to affiliate their applications with the largest mobile device manufacturer in the world. These are the kinds of business and partnership opportunities to be addressed later in the day by Ganesh Sivaraman.

So a little bit on how we support developers We’ve got the Forum Nokia organization broken out into these three groups. Developer Relations, organized regionally, reaches out into these communities of all different descriptions, looking for innovation and then working them back into Nokia and our device spaces. I’ll talk a little bit more about this process shortly. On the technical services and consultancy side, we’ve got a virtual army of consultants who help with testing, certification, Symbian signing process, we’ve got our prototype or loaner service, we’re enaging with universities to help thier computer sciences divisions to write curricula that are matriculating Nokia and generic S60 skills into the marketplace. And then on the marketing side , we offer traditional marketing services around event outreach, event participation, we provide co-marketing services to developers who come to us with an idea to create seminars, and local demand generation activity, Forum.Nokia.com is our electronic communication with the vast majority of our community, and we’re making huge investments to renew that online environment. And then we’ve got specific programs for different types of developers whether they’re game developers in our games zone, or enterprise developers in our eZone. So really the point of this chart is to highlight all of the different elements that are necessary to build the mobile developer ecosystem. Over ten years, a lot of iteration, we’ve found doing if you neglect any one, there’s really no way to scale. Our competitors talk about importance of developers, which is true, but unless they’ll invest in all these components, it’s going to be a challenge for them to provide the support developers seek in integrating, distributing and monetizing.
