  2. 2. GloCell Oy WHAT WE DO History GloCell Oy has started back in 2004 as fiber and furnish consulting company for pulp and papermakers, founded by brothers Lehtonen (Ph.D. and M.sc). They had an idea, that forest based industry can do things in a new way and wanted to develop a new software to help in that process. That is how SoftaCell™ was created. Since then, GloCell has become the best on the market providing solutions for multivariable cost and material optimization. GloCell’s SoftaCell™ optimization program is nowadays globally in use by forest based industry companies. GloCell is a specialized company working with different multivariable models for furnish mix optimization and evaluation of their cost to quality ratios. Core competences of our company are extensive understanding about the fibres, mathematical modelling skills and wide experience from the pulp- and paper industry

How SoftaCell™ works • SoftaCell™ primary function is to find and simulate the optimum furnish mix for different paper or board grades based on the potential of the available pulps and fillers • With the help of SoftaCell™ optimal pulp combinations and refining ratios can be found in acknowledge of effect on final quality and cost efficiency of the mix changes • In the program it’s easy to set limits minimum and maximum values for all the necessary quality parameter ranges and optimize without loss of total performance 6

Optimize your production with SoftaCell™ How could it be done in papermaking as an example In the beginning, you would have list of your pulps with quality properties of different kinds Later on you would have modelled paper structure consisting from in example different types of pulps, fillers and additives, with spesific production parameters and process variables taken into account These structures can then be optimized within the quality limits to suit your preferences with SoftaCell™ Cost effect of different raw material combinations will be reported simultaneously with changed quality properties 7

Mix report is synchronized with mix optimization so that every change in the use of pulps or machine parameters is seen immediately as a change on economics In this example a single ~60kt/a papermachine shows 600k€/a saving potential, just by changing between hardwood suppliers in furnish mix, without any significant quality losses 10

Saving potential is always corporate and case specific. Typical savings created are usually around 3€/ton but in many cases when a high percentage of the pulps used for production are bought from the markets, savings of 10€/ton and more have been reported in Europe.
