  • 3. Pressure Sensitive Labeling Theory
    A label is a piece of paper, polymer, cloth, metal, or other material affixed to a container or article, on which is printed a legend, information concerning the product, addresses, etc. A label may also be printed directly on the container or article.
    Labels have many uses: product identification, name tags, advertising, warnings, and other communication. Special types of labels called digital labels (printed through a digital printing) can also have special constructions such as RFID tags, security printing, and sandwich process labels.
  • 4. Pressure Sensitive Labeling Theory
    Labels can be attached by:
    Pressure Sensitive Adhesives (also called PSA or self-stick) are applied with light pressure without activation or heat. PSA labels often have release liners which protect the adhesive and assist label handling.
    Heat Activated Adhesives: for an example, "in-mold labeling" can be part of blow molding containers and employs heat activated adhesives. Hot melt adhesives are also used.

    First Step of applying the label is to remove it from the liner
    Typically removal is achieved by guiding the liner with attached label, over the sharp edge… PEELER BAR
    While liner is following the path around the peel point, the beam strength of the label is forcing the label to continue in direction of travel and separate itself from the liner…

    Wipe-On
    The most common and most reliable method
    Label is separated from the liner and applied to the passing product at the same speed
    Label is attached to the product via Wipe-On device (brush)
    Speed synchronization is a critical issue
    Air Blow
    During separation process, label is guided with air assist blast against Vacuum Plate (Vacuum Grid)
    Vacuum is created by free flow air fan/blower
    Label is applied by the quick blow of strategically positioned jets, using compressed air
    Quality of attachment affected by many factors…

    Tamp-On
    During separation process, label is guided with air assist blast against Vacuum Plate (Tamp Pad)
    Vacuum is created by “Venturi” vacuum generators (compressed air)
    Label is applied by activating a slide, carrying Tamp Pad with Label and forcing the label to get in contact with the product
    Quality of attachment affected by many factors…
    Tamp-Blow
    Similar as Tamp-On, difference is that Tamp Pad is not making physical contact with product…
    at the end of slide stroke, label is Blown-On and attached to product with air blast

    Tamp Pad is suspended on conforming Gimbal assembly, allowing the label to be applied on uneven surfaces
    Equipped with Contact sensor, returning the arm to home position is automatic
    Common application, Pallet or Case labeling
