Social Snapshots: Social Learning

Editor's Notes

  1. Learning is creating or connecting neurons across synapses in the hippocampusDue to the plasticity of connections between neurons, you can collect information and learn in the world every day!The interaction between two or more people utilizing social media and/or other collaborative technologies to facilitate changes in knowledge.
  2. Humans are Hyper-Social: hard-wired to cooperate, share opinions, and make sure that their sense of “fairness” is expressedHumans mimic each other due to mirror neuronsWe are a herding species!Social learning is characterized by interactive collaboration and iterative knowledge creation stimulated by cycles of sharing and feedback.
  3. PodcastsYouTubeIdea Generation/ InnovationVisualization
  4. Shape knowledge and stimulate learning by Formulating responses, communicating positions, sharing ideas, raising emotions, and swapping stories
  5. communication and dialogue with others engenders ‘productive friction’ or literal ‘talkback’, causing learners to rethink, reevaluate, and reformulate their positions
  6. Ongoing changes in responses from various collaborators on projects that interest us sparks an evolution of knowledge and representations (i.e. learning)
  7. Asocial situation is a powerful sensory experience via sounds, sights, emotions, etc. Amplifying these senses using social computing creates a powerful catalyst
  8. although social learning is inherently social, the individual still acts as the repository and nexus of new knowledge. Positioning his/her learning opportunities within specific events of the Talent life cycle and the trajectories of a career path or lattice act to guide and shape an individual’s development
