  • 2. 216 / 10 / 2012Josep BardalloDNT DNT (“do not track”) : The do not track header is a proposed HTTP headerfield that requests that a web application disable either its tracking or cross-site user tracking (the ambiguity remains unresolved) of an individual user. In December 2010, Microsoft announced support for the DNT mechanism inits Internet Explorer 9 web browser, followed by Mozillas Firefox, ApplesSafari, and Opera all later added support. The stable version of GoogleChrome does not support DNT yet, but the pre-release builds have option toenable it. In June 2012, Microsoft announced that the Do Not Track option would beactivated by default in Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 8 as part of itscommitment to user privacy.
  • 3. 316 / 10 / 2012Josep Bardallo“Internet Association” Recently the “Internet Association” has been created. Their claim on thewebsite is “We are the unified voice of the Internet economy”. They thenstate that they represent the interests of America’s leading Internetcompanies and their global community of users. The real message followsafterwards: “We are dedicated to advancing public policy solutions tostrengthen and protect internet freedom, foster innovation and economicgrowth and empower users”. This could also be read somewhat differently: We are the lobbyistorganization which will try to avoid everything that can stop us frombuilding our business based on the data we have obtained about ourusers. We don’t want enforcement of privacy laws. In fact, the InternetAssociation has been created in response to the DNT (“do not track”) and istargeted against the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) and others who aredriving this concept.
