8. SIDEWALKS ARE A VERY BIG DEAL
As a means of traveling
Winsted has a walking policy for its school district
Many of our children need to walk to school using them!
For people without vehicles
Walking helps reduce our environmental impact
Some streets don’t even have sidewalks!
Sidewalks keep people safe from having to walk in the road near vehicles
For business
Better sidewalk conditions promote business
No one will walk on a sidewalk covered in 2 feet of snow to go to a store
Simple visual appeal attracts customers
9. Bad for Business
This is a part of the sidewalk on Park
PL W, right across from the town
green and NWCC. This is not
attractive at all and hurts the
businesses.
10. Un-shoveled
Here's another of many sidewalks
covered in snow. We've had a fairly
clear winter but usually snow keeps
pilling up all season. Only the
sidewalks on the most important
streets are kept clear.
11. Our children
Winsted has a walking policy in
place, we don’t want our children
having to walk in dangerous
conditions.
13. FIXING OUR SIDEWALKS ISN'T ROCKET
SCIENCE
Hire local contractors to repave and repair our sidewalk
And possibly build new ones on streets that currently don’t have
them
Hire workers to shovel in the winter
Keeping a build up of snow and ice off of them will also help keep our
sidewalks in good condition much longer
15. FINAL THOUGHTS
Sidewalks are a huge part of any community
The townspeople's safety is more important than cost
Even if realistically we cant take care of all of our sidewalks at
once, we can still draw out a route to fix that allows a safe path to
school for all of our children
Most likely a long term project
We already made the sidewalks next to the sports fields in town
really nice, so lets get the rest of our sidewalks up to par as well!
