      • A network of computer networks
      • A set of communication protocols
      • The one and only IT infrastructure

    3. Why will Internet be The network?
      • Based on open standards
      • Scaleable
      • Globally accepted
      • Available without major investments
      • Growing rapidly
      • Cost efficient

    4. What will we do on Internet?
      • Everything!
        • Distribute texts, show pictures
        • Telephone, TV and radio
        • Etc., etc.
      • “ All” information exchange and communication will use Internet
      • “ Everything” will be connected to Internet

    5. Possible limitations
      • None!
      • Moore’s law will continue to hold
      • Computer networks will develop even faster
      • Addresses will never run out
      • Etc., etc.

    6. What does this mean?
      • New ways to communicate
      • New ways to exchange information
      • Imply changes in how we live, learn and work

      • Easy to store and distribute
      • Easy to copy without loss of quality
      • Easy to present information
      • Easy to change format
      • Easy to supply meta-information

    8. Changes – “Everything” will be connected
      • Share resources
      • Share information
      • Work together
      • The network is more important than the “computer”

      • Interests more important than ”closeness”

      • Handle all information types with one tool
      • Easy and cheap to create information in any format
      • Possible to reach a world wide audience
      • No more broadcasting
      • Initiative will come from the receiver

      • Primacy of text is removed
      • All formats equally easy to handle
      • A return to ”pre-printing press times”
      • The “best” format can be chosen

      • Printed = permanent
      • Possible to change with time

      • Material flows and information are separated
      • Services become more important
      • Products become ”invisible”
      • Companies become ”invisible”
      • ” Hard to explain what you are doing”

    14. How do these changes affect the educational sector?
      • New ”doors” will open
      • New contacts will be possible
      • New information sources will become available
      • No common teaching material
      • Subjects change and merge

      • Competition between schools
      • Deeper contacts with parents
      • Central role for school libraries
      • Parallel changes (buildings, pedagogy etc.)
      • School will depend on a “critical system”
      • Support costs must be handled
