Slide 4: 3. Benefits of Carbohydrates  -How it helps the body: Carbohydrates help the body by giving it energy to use. It makes you feel full when you eat foods that contain complex carbohydrates

Precautions including deficiencies or toxicity of the nutrient  Deficient carbohydrates can cause a lack of calories (malnutrition), or excessive intake of fats to make up the calories.  Excessive carbohydrates can cause an increase in the total caloric intake, causing obesity.  You can get malnutrition if you don’t eat enough or become obese if you have too much.

If you have too much carbohydrates then you can become obese. If you have too little carbohydrates then you can have malnutrition. Carbohydrates are an essential nutrient because without it you will not have any energy.
