2. BGMD is a medical device marketing firm dedicated to
helping companies distribute their products and grow
their business presence in Latin America and the
Caribbean.
3. US$14 BILLION
Size of medical device market in Latin America
(Research and Markets, 2016)
4. Highlights from the region
• LATAM Medical Device Markets ranked:
1. Brazil – 38% of LATAM market
2. México – 33%
3. Colombia – 8%
4. Venezuela – 6%
5. Argentina – 5%
6. Chile – 5%
7. Perú – 3%
• All markets are growing at a high but steady CAGR
• Brazil and México, however, have the more complex and lengthy regulatory approval
processes in the region
5. Opportunities for manufacturers of medical
devices and supplies do exist, but the challenge is to
know where and how to develop them.
6. Consider this…
• Each country’s circumstances are different:
• Medical Devices Import & Medical Market Regulations: Varies from minimal paperwork to very
strict, lengthy and costly registration process.
• Customer (i.e. the End User) mix: Varies from mostly Government run health care systems to
mostly privately owned health care providers and anywhere in between.
• Economics: Each country’s economy and the share of GPD spent on its health care system. Also, the
impact of the relative purchasing power of the different currencies.
• Technology adoption rate: Customers in some countries are just not ready to incorporate a high-
tech product into their day-to-day operations.
• Costs of serving/supporting each market: Import taxes, customs brokerage fees, etc.
These among other country specific considerations…
Also, you need to take into account the international distribution structure(s) your OEM is willing,
ready and capable of supporting.
7. In order to effectively and efficiently grow your company’s
business in such a diverse region as LATAM (or any large
region, for that matter) the key is to prioritize your
target countries according to ROI and then develop and
supervise a “tailor made” channel that delivers “amazing
delight” to your End User Customer in each market.
Let us at BGMD show you the way to results!
