      • “ "Web 2.0" refers to the second generation of web development and web design. It is characterized as facilitating communication, information sharing, interoperability, user-centered design[1] and collaboration on the World Wide Web.” Wikipedia

      • Why might I want to create my own Wiki?
        • To obtain collaborative help from all over the world to solve a problem.
          • Assumes you are not the only human with the same problem
          • “ all over the world” could mean scattered friends and/or family members, coworkers, etc.
        • To share your interests in your hobby or other obsesion.

        • The farm can also “host” the wiki you create
          • Some are free but charge for optional services

      • Definition : A blog (a contraction of the term " weblog ")[1] is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. Wikipedia
      • Why blog ?
        • As many reasons as there are blogs. For example:
          • Check out this April 2007 link to a discussion on the subject

          • an Internet search engine for searching blogs and

          • However, traditional news sources quote and use blogs
        • What will the future bring?

        • Anyone. For example here is my blog

        • Here is an article listing ten FREE sites on which your blog can be “hosted” (stored and presented)
      • What software tools do I need?
        • Some free sites like WWW.Blogger.Com offer templates and free use of their software online
      • Some offer opportunity to “monetize”

      • “ A podcast is a programme (usually audio, sometimes video) which is made available as a downloadable digital file. It is usually spoken word (e.g. a rebroadcast of a radio programme), usually released periodically as part of a series, and usually offered via web syndication . The podcast is the collection of all shows or episodes of a particular program series delivered in this manner”

      • Types: Both audio and video Podcasts exist
      • Watching or listening
        • In real time: find a website (using Google for example) that offers a podcast you are interested in
          • Click on the “listen” or “watch” button

      • Instead of downloading, saving and playing the podcast multimedia file with your local multimedia player, use a “ Podcatcher ”
        • Podcatcher is a type of client software used to manage podcasts and your subscription to them

          • Available free from here for both Windows and Mac OS

      • ITunes assists you in subscribing to podcasts
        • Other “Podcatchers” will do the same
        • Podcatchers take advantage of a technology called “Really Simple Syndication” ( RSS ) to sign up for and receive podcast downloads.
        • ITunes (and some other Podcatchers) provides:
          • Automatic download via RSS of new podcasts for which you are subscribed
          • Podcast file management like “delete when played” or “save for X days” etc
          • Automatic migration to MP3 players like the IPod
          • Playing of podcasts on your computer
