Video Evaluation

 1. 1. Video Evaluation
 2. 2.

My name is Jessica Duxbury. I am part of a group of 3, and for our product we created a Music Video, Digi Pack and a poster.

This is my video evaluation…

 3. 3. Identify the main genre Music Video.
 4. 4.

Deciding to do a music video on one of more popular genre, Dance/r’n’b, we looked at artists with the similar genre. Such as Rihanna, Black Eyed Peas and Lady GaGa.

 5. 5.

We looked at the artists music videos and gained our own idea of what our video should be like. Our main ideas came from the music video ‘just dance’ and ‘I’ve got a feeling’

 6. 6. Identify the key conventions of a music video using a real example that inspired you to illustrate these features?
 7. 7. Relationship between the lyrics and the visuals “ Look at her dancing” “ Fill up my cup Mazeltov”
 8. 8. ‘ I see you babe’ ‘ I want you too’
 9. 9. Relationship between the music and the visuals Slower pace, slow visuals Faster pace, fast visuals
 10. 10. During the faster pace, The visuals also become quicker Same with the Slower pace, The visuals become just as slow
 11. 11. Has close ups of artist/artists
 12. 13. Reference to voyeurism See them getting ready, Before the party.
 13. 14. See him preparing Himself before going To the party
 14. 15. How our music video has similar features.
 15. 16. The two main videos both have a before the party starts scene. Which ours has. Black Eyed Peas – I Got A Feeling Lady Gaga – Just Dance
 16. 18. Both have dance scenes, which ours has . Lady Gaga-Just Dance Black Eyed Peas- I Got A Feeling
 17. 20. How ours is different.
 18. 21.

We wanted to create a party environment that didn’t have drinking glamorised like it is in the other videos. To make it ideally suitable for the younger target audience, so we didn’t have drinks shown.

 19. 22.

We didn’t have seedy sexual suggesting scenes in our music video, even though there is romance, it’s created with the artist flirting rather then doing anything sexual.

 20. 23.

In the video, we didn’t have a chaos scene, this is so the video doesn’t give a negative influence to the audience.

 21. 24. Identify the secondary genre – what genre did you use?
 22. 25. R’n’B Dance
 23. 26. We see the same conventions of R’n’B (Usher) with the fact we see the artist talking to his love interest trying to ‘win her over’ We see the same Entering the dance scene of dancing as we do in (Black Eyed Peas)
 24. 27. Key Features.
 25. 28. R’n’B/Usher

‘ There goes my baby’, is the R’n’B track, we had got some of the romance scenes from, as it seems to be a popular convention of R’n’B videos.

We see these being done in medium and close up shots.

 26. 29. Dance/B.E.P

‘ Time of my life’ is the Black Eyed Peas track we looked at, as it’s a typical dance video. We have the dance scene and close ups of the artist dancing.

These genre of music videos always have a ‘before the party’ scene.

 27. 30. How our video uses these conventions.
 28. 31. R’n’B

We have medium to close up shots of the scenes were he is singing to his love interest. Which is done like other R’n’B videos, as they are in different locations.

 29. 32. Dance

We have the dance scenes done in medium and close up shots. This gives a more ‘full room’ effect. It shows different people having a good time at a party.

 30. 33. How It’s different.
 31. 34. R’n’B

In the music videos of r’n’b we usually see a very sexually suggesting scene of the artist and the love interest.

We didn’t do this because we wanted it so audience could watch the video without feeling uncomfortable cause of the x-rated scenes.

 32. 36. Dance

In the dance videos, there was a lot of parts were the house or place they was in got destroyed during the video.

We didn’t do this cause we didn’t want the video to encourage a chaotic behaviour .
