      • The wiki, which got its name from the Hawaiian word for "quick," is the little brother to the blog
      • It is an interactive Web page that can be changed by anyone who stumbles upon it.
      • While blogs let people publish their thoughts online, wikis take things a step further, creating freewheeling, collaborative communities.
      • Students can edit one another's work, bounce ideas around or link to infinite other Web sites.
    12. WIKI’S
      • While blogs let people publish their thoughts online, wikis take things a step further, creating freewheeling, collaborative communities.
      • Students can edit one another's work, bounce ideas around or link to infinite other Web sites.
      • Wikis can encourage creativity, remove the limits on class time, give teachers a better sense of student understanding and interest and keep students writing, thinking and questioning.

    14. The Look Of A Wiki
    15. PodCasts
      • Podcasting is a blanket term used to describe a collection of technologies for automatically distributing audio and video programs over the internet via a publish and subscribe model.
      • Podcasting enables independent producers to create self-published, syndicated "radio shows," and gives broadcast radio or television programs a new distribution method.
    16. PodCasts
      • So so simple to do. It is my guess that as soon as our students really figure out how to do this – it is going to skyrocket.
      • One problem – the newest iPods don’t have the microphone adapter. (Check on the 20gb G3 ipod for easiest use)
      • iTunes, a must!!!
    17. Sites To Check Out

    19. Bulletin Boards
      • A bulletin board is a place where people can leave public messages, for example, to advertise things to buy or sell, announce events, or provide information.
      • Bulletin Boards are also commonly referred to as web forums, message boards, discussion boards, discussion groups, or simply forums.
    20. Bulletin Boards
      • http://groups.google.com/

    21. Tech Help Bulletin Board http://technospud.com/TechHelp/index.php
    22. MySpace.com
      • One of the biggest growing “kid” communities on the internet.
      • Members have to be at least 14 to join – however, this is easy to manipulate to gain entry.
      http://www.myspace.com/
    23. MySpace.com
      • Please check with your students to see if they know about MySpace.com. Most likely, they do.
      • Let your parents know about MySpace.com by visiting http://www.wiredsafety.org/internet101/myspaceguide.html and
      • http://www.newhampshire.com/articles/showularticle.cfm?id=62815
      http://www.myspace.com/
    24. Ideas for Parents
      • “ Be up front about it and say "I've been going to some of the blog sites and I'm really curious what's going on with people your age today. I want to read some of the things on line.  Let's sit down together and talk about some of the things that are going on on-line. I want to understand your world,”
      • To keep your kids safe, ask your child to include you on his or her "friends list" so you can keep track of the content.
      • If that doesn't work, you can, in some cases, search the sites using your teen's name or email address.
      • Also, it's a good idea to keep computers in a common area and not a teen's bedroom.
      • Experts advise parents to maintain trust, even though it may be hard to do.
