A brief History - over the years 
• LinkedIn was officially launched on May 5, 2003 
• By 2004, it already had 100,000 members 
• In 2005, LinkedIn made its page more business like by adding Jobs and Subscriptions. 
• In 2008, LinkedIn went global, opening its first international office in London. 
• In 2009, LinkedIn got a new CEO, Jeff Weiner. 
• LinkedIn became a publicly traded company in 2011, on the New York Stock Exchange. 
• In 2013, LinkedIn celebrated its 10-year anniversary. 
• The company reached 225 million members and is currently growing at more 
than two members per second.
Some Interesting Facts 
• LinkedIn is currently available in twenty-three languages. 
• They have offices in 30 cities around the world. 
• LinkedIn operates the world’s largest professional network on the Internet with 
more than 313 million members in over 200 countries and territories. 
• Net Worth is $1.52 billion 
• LinkedIn counts executives from all 2013 Fortune 500 companies as members; its 
corporate talent solutions are used by 94 of the Fortune 100 companies. 
• LinkedIn members did over 5.7 billion professionally oriented searches on the 
platform in 2012. 
• More than 3 million companies have LinkedIn Company Pages.

LinkedIn Free and Upgraded Premium Accounts 
What are the different types of LinkedIn accounts? 
LinkedIn offers a Basic (free) account as well as various upgraded Premium accounts, 
depending on your needs. 
Basic (free) account 
• A Basic account is for anyone who wants to create and maintain a professional profile 
online without the cost. 
• Build and maintain a large trusted professional network. 
• Find and reconnect with colleagues and classmates. 
• Request and provide recommendations. 
• Create a professional presence on the web. 
• Request up to 5 introductions at a time. 
• Search for and view profiles of other LinkedIn users. 
• Receive unlimited InMails. 
• View 100 results per search. 
• Save up to 3 searches and get weekly alerts on those searches. 
Premium accounts 
With a Premium account, you can send InMails to reach anyone on LinkedIn, get hundreds 
of additional search results, and see more information about who's viewed your profile. If you have 
a free account and want to upgrade, you can compare account types described below. 
• Business- for general business users 
• Job Seeker- for job seekers 
• Sales Professional- for sales professionals 
• Recruiter- for enterprise and individual recruiters
Who’s viewing your profile? 
You can see who looked at your profile. As a free member, you can see up to 5 
people who viewed your profile. Premium account holders can see more. 
You have 3 choices to show what other people see when you’ve viewed their profile. 
• Your name and headline (Recommended) 
• Anonymous profile characteristics such as industry and title 
• Totally anonymous
Profile 
You want your profile to promote your brand, jumpstart a conversation, promote 
skills, knowledge, and personality. 
Be creative, create a profile that showcases your professional abilities, you want to be 
able to be personal and true to yourself and about yourself. 
A Profile photo is important because it makes it personal, people want to see who they 
are talking to, to be able to put a face to a name. 
You can add a photo from your files, or have LinkedIn take your photo from your desktop camera. 
Make sure the picture shows your face, just your face. 
In your profile name just use your first and last name, it makes it easier for people to find you. 
You can also change your public profile URL, so that it is easier for people to find you.

Summary 
Your Summary should be 3 paragraphs 
1st paragraph – is a brief description of who you are. 
2nd paragraph – is what value you can bring, if you are seeking a job, put it here. 
3rd paragraph – says something personal about you. 
You have up to 2000 characters to use in this field. 
Experience 
What the company does and what you do/did for them. 
Put your experience in your own words, don’t copy and paste from a job posting. 
Past positions that show on your profile are 12x more likely to be reviewed by hiring 
managers and receive 6x more business opportunities.
Recommendations 
Why – it adds credibility, helps get you hired, find customers, build your brand 
and reputation, it makes your network wore valuable to you. 
Who – former managers, co-workers, colleagues, business partners, customers, can clients. 
You can manage your recommendations in Privacy and settings, ask for recommendations. 
Endorsements 
Endorsements are different from recommendations. 
Recommendations are written, they have more value, are more detailed, and show 
under the experience that it applies to. 
Endorsements say ‘yes’ beside your known skill.
Profile Strength 
There are 5 levels to profile strength 
Only an ‘all star’ profile can be shared via Twitter & Facebook. 
You are the only person able to see your profile strength, 
people browsing your profile can’t see your strength. 
The main reason to complete your profile is to ensure that you 
will appear in LinkedIn search results.

• Profile photo 
• Current position and description 
• At least 5 skills 
• Summary 
• Industry and location 
• Your education 
• At least 50 connections

My Learning Goals 
 I would like to learn how to set up an attractive page that will get noticed. 
 I would like to learn how this media will help me get a future job in January 
after I graduate from my EA program. 
 I realize that starting out as an EA, it will be a lot of supply work at different schools. 
Therefore I would like to develop a large group of connections that not only would help 
me get a job, but also to share resources and learning tools. 
My Learning Goals Answered 
 I feel that I have now set up an attractive page that will get noticed. 
I added a profile photo, a summary, all my work experience, skills, languages, and 
volunteer experiences. 
 In the Advanced Search area, I can input Teacher, or Principal in the Title section, 
I can click on my location area and I can search people out there and connect with them 
in hopes of getting a job with their school. This is something would be better with the 
Premium package, as then I would be able to see more information about the people and 
be able to send more than InMail requests. 
 I have learned that by adding connections, there might be someone out there looking 
for a person in my position, and they might see my name from either my profile, or 
someone that I am connected to.

A brief History - over the years • LinkedIn was officially launched on May 5, 2003 • By 2004, it already had 100,000 members • In 2005, LinkedIn made its page more business like by adding Jobs and Subscriptions. • In 2008, LinkedIn went global, opening its first international office in London. • In 2009, LinkedIn got a new CEO, Jeff Weiner. • LinkedIn became a publicly traded company in 2011, on the New York Stock Exchange. • In 2013, LinkedIn celebrated its 10-year anniversary. • The company reached 225 million members and is currently growing at more than two members per second.

LinkedIn offers a Basic (free) account as well as various upgraded Premium accounts, depending on your needs. Basic (free) account • A Basic account is for anyone who wants to create and maintain a professional profile online without the cost. • Build and maintain a large trusted professional network. • Find and reconnect with colleagues and classmates. • Request and provide recommendations. • Create a professional presence on the web. • Request up to 5 introductions at a time. • Search for and view profiles of other LinkedIn users. • Receive unlimited InMails. • View 100 results per search. • Save up to 3 searches and get weekly alerts on those searches. Premium accounts With a Premium account, you can send InMails to reach anyone on LinkedIn, get hundreds of additional search results, and see more information about who's viewed your profile. If you have a free account and want to upgrade, you can compare account types described below. • Business- for general business users • Job Seeker- for job seekers • Sales Professional- for sales professionals • Recruiter- for enterprise and individual recruiters
  • 9. Who’s viewing your profile? You can see who looked at your profile. As a free member, you can see up to 5 people who viewed your profile. Premium account holders can see more. You have 3 choices to show what other people see when you’ve viewed their profile. • Your name and headline (Recommended) • Anonymous profile characteristics such as industry and title • Totally anonymous
  • 10. Profile You want your profile to promote your brand, jumpstart a conversation, promote skills, knowledge, and personality. Be creative, create a profile that showcases your professional abilities, you want to be able to be personal and true to yourself and about yourself. A Profile photo is important because it makes it personal, people want to see who they are talking to, to be able to put a face to a name. You can add a photo from your files, or have LinkedIn take your photo from your desktop camera. Make sure the picture shows your face, just your face. In your profile name just use your first and last name, it makes it easier for people to find you. You can also change your public profile URL, so that it is easier for people to find you. Summary Your Summary should be 3 paragraphs 1st paragraph – is a brief description of who you are. 2nd paragraph – is what value you can bring, if you are seeking a job, put it here. 3rd paragraph – says something personal about you. You have up to 2000 characters to use in this field. Experience What the company does and what you do/did for them. Put your experience in your own words, don’t copy and paste from a job posting. Past positions that show on your profile are 12x more likely to be reviewed by hiring managers and receive 6x more business opportunities.
  • 12. Recommendations Why – it adds credibility, helps get you hired, find customers, build your brand and reputation, it makes your network wore valuable to you. Who – former managers, co-workers, colleagues, business partners, customers, can clients. You can manage your recommendations in Privacy and settings, ask for recommendations. Endorsements Endorsements are different from recommendations. Recommendations are written, they have more value, are more detailed, and show under the experience that it applies to. Endorsements say ‘yes’ beside your known skill.
  • 13. Profile Strength There are 5 levels to profile strength Only an ‘all star’ profile can be shared via Twitter & Facebook. You are the only person able to see your profile strength, people browsing your profile can’t see your strength. The main reason to complete your profile is to ensure that you will appear in LinkedIn search results. 7 Things to get to all-star status • Profile photo • Current position and description • At least 5 skills • Summary • Industry and location • Your education • At least 50 connections

My Learning Goals  I would like to learn how to set up an attractive page that will get noticed.  I would like to learn how this media will help me get a future job in January after I graduate from my EA program.  I realize that starting out as an EA, it will be a lot of supply work at different schools. Therefore I would like to develop a large group of connections that not only would help me get a job, but also to share resources and learning tools. My Learning Goals Answered  I feel that I have now set up an attractive page that will get noticed. I added a profile photo, a summary, all my work experience, skills, languages, and volunteer experiences.  In the Advanced Search area, I can input Teacher, or Principal in the Title section, I can click on my location area and I can search people out there and connect with them in hopes of getting a job with their school. This is something would be better with the Premium package, as then I would be able to see more information about the people and be able to send more than InMail requests.  I have learned that by adding connections, there might be someone out there looking for a person in my position, and they might see my name from either my profile, or someone that I am connected to.
