    • What have you learnt from your audience feedback? Joanna Embley.
    • What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
      • - At the beginning we researched artists, songs, and music videos to see what is high in the charts now and what people would enjoy. Also we wanted to use a younger and more interesting song, and for the song and video to be aimed at younger people. Before we started our work we drew up a questionnaire to see what people would like and what they wouldn’t.
      1. Would you rather a female or male being the main artist? Female – 4 Male – 3 2. Do you enjoy the genre singer/songwriter? Yes – 7 No – 0 Luckily all the people we asked said yes which is brilliant because of the fact that we know people will enjoy this song and will want to watch the video. 3. Does it matter about the age of the artist to you ? Yes – 0 No – 7 4. Do you find it easy to relate to songs like this? Yes – 5 No – 2 5. Do you like it when you can relate to songs by singer/songwriters? Yes – 7 No – 0 6. Do you prefer when the songs are fast or slow paced? Slow – 1 Fast – 6
    • What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
      • 7. Do you think songs like this should be full of colour and busy or just basic?
      • Basic – 7
      • Busy – 0
      8. Do you think direct address helps you to connect to the song? Yes – 1 No – 6 9. What kind of music do you prefer to listen to? Indie – 4 Pop – 2 R&B -1 10. Do you think this type of music should be in the charts or just pop? In the charts – 5 Pop - 2 We are really happy with the results because it gave us a clear indication of what people would enjoy, and it helped us to understand what needed to be used in our video. From this questionnaire we realised our target audience would be aimed at 16 -35 year olds, because this range is rather young, but they are mature enough to understand the song, and also our chosen genre, singer/songwriter . We are really happy with this result because it is an upcoming genre and is starting to dominate the charts.
    • What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
      • - We set out to appeal to our target audience, by observing our questionnaire, trying to relate to the people we asked and what they would like. We realised that we should use a female, it doesn’t matter what age the artist is, to be able to relate to the artist, and use basic colours. We do understand that most people preferred a faster paced song, and don’t really need the direct address from the artist to be able to relate to the artist. However, we did look at the conventions of music videos and thought that some things did need to be in the music video, and did look better, such as direct address. We kept all these ideas in mind to create our music video, and also using the techniques from the conventions of music video, and the questionnaire. Our results guided us to making the correct decisions and to not go down a different direction from our chosen genre, and what our video should consist of.
‘ I enjoy all sorts of music, and like to listen to new music, but my favourite is indie.’ ‘ Oooh, the singer/songwriter genre will be really good I reckon.’ ‘ Yeah, a female will be much better for this video, will be able to relate to her better, than if it was a man.’ ‘ Any age of the artist will interest me, as long as the video is good.’
    • What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
      • - We did use demographic profiling and psychographic profiling to determine our target audience. We did this because we needed to use the profiling theories to determine how our music video would look, and to get a clearer idea for our target audience. We also looked at Secondary Audience, Maslows Hierachy of Needs, The Uses and Gratifications Theory, and Texts appealing to your audience.
Demographic Profiling. Gender - Female. We have decided that the main target audience is female. This is because we will be using a female artist, and a feminine song. Also we think that this song will appeal to the female population more because of how soft and slow paced the song is, and this is stereotypically known to appeal to women the most. Race - All races. The reason we have chosen to apply our music video to all races is because it is a wide audience, and the song doesn't appeal to a specific race as it is an all round song and isn't stereotypically known as a song that specifically fits a certain race, like reggae or mc. Age - 16-35. The fact this song and video will appeal to younger females is because we will be using a young female in the video and may be able to relate to the song. However the older females from 27-35 will like this song because it is a soft paced song with a slow video which is easy to watch and a beautiful song to listen to. Socio Economic Scale - C1. This group we think will enjoy the song the most because it is usually younger people in these jobs, and these people will enjoy the song more. It isn't an overly expensive video but this type of person will be able to relate to it the most.
    • What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
      • Psychographic Profiling.
      • Using Young and Rubicam's theory we have decided that this song and video will appeal the most to the reformers and mainstreamers. This is because the singer/songwriter genre is more appealing to educated people who will appreciate the song for what it is and how much effort has gone into making the video and producing the song. It will also appeal to the mainstreamers because this type of genre is becoming quite big in the charts and is something different to listen to.
      •
      • Secondary Audience.
      • For this genre and music video our secondary audience would be the older generation and men because it is a heartfelt song that some older people and men can relate to and can enjoy. The artist is quite mature in what she writes about and her video is interesting to watch.
    • What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
      • Maslow's Hierarchy of Need.
      • The basic human needs our text will fulfil we think will be love and belonging because of the song, and it talks about the male going round collecting jar of hearts, as in stealing girls hearts as if he has cheated on the female. It will fulfil our texts in the fact that people can relate to this, through the song and the video. Also our text will be slow and easy to watch, and will make people listen to the song and connect to it
      • The Uses and Gratifications Theory.
      • For this area we think the basic human needs through our text will fulfil Personal Identity in the fact that people will be able to reflect to the song get something from it depending on the situation. They will be learning the values from the text which in this song will be independence to make the correct decision against the male.
    • What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
      • Texts appealing to your audience.
      • We will be using a female to be the main artist so it will appeal more to the females, and make the video quite feminine by having the girl in  a dress and being quite conservative. We will be filming in the evening and at night to keep within the black and white idea which does keep its sophistication and maturity. The shots will be slow paced so it will be easy to watch which will appeal to the audience, it wont be busy and noisy which can be unappealing to some people. Also they will be simple and basic ensuring that more people will like it and also it will link to the pace of the song. We will also be using low key lighting so it keeps the mysteriousness for people wanting to watch it and find out more about the video. The female will be using direct address, being able to connect with the audience and be serious about the song.
    • What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
      • - We made another questionnaire that our fellow pupils filled in as they watched our video. We then received a video of audience feedback from our fellow pupils, this helped us to understand what people did and didn’t like. Also it showed us the contrast between our first and final questionnaire.
      - We really enjoyed hearing what people had to say, what could be improved and what they enjoyed. Ourselves knew what needs to be improved and if we could, we would improve it.
