February 10 - and AGAIN there are two healthy chicks in the nest! (Com m ent: Friends saw the eaglets as early as January 18 th. Eagles incubate their eggs for 35 days. After they hatch, the eaglets gain a pound every 4 to 5 days. By the end of 2 weeks, they can hold up their heads for feeding. So these guys were there by the 1 st of January at least!)

February 17 - the chicks were well fed, and there was contentment all around! People wanting to observe or photograph the eagles can disturb them enough to cause them to abandon a nest. We use binoculars for viewing, and keep at a reasonable distance.

February 25th - A brief stop by the nest. Only one eaglet was visible; presumably the other was sleeping.

Sitting very quietly and very still, with brown-and-white feathers and a black bill, juvenile Bald Eagles are well camouflaged while they’re in the nest. (They don’t look completely like an adult for 5 years.)

March 19, 2010 Hi Jean and Mike, I saw the eaglets fly into the woods behind the nest this m orning. I got there around 7:30 AM and they were perched ...one on a lim b close to the nest and the other in a broken tree top close by. I had just found num ber 2 when he took off. I didn't get pictures of Num ber 1 flying away, but the last shot is of him right before he took off. I was so relieved to see them both and then to know they can FLY --- very well I m ight add. Saw them both back in the woods doing an excellent job!!! Sorry you m issed them . I am not sure they just took off flying today. They had NO trouble flying off. Just am azing. One of the parents was back in the woods with them and they were som ewhat verbal with each other...it was exciting to hear them ! Couldn't wait to tell you both, Donna So by March 19, the eaglets had fledged. We had gone over a little later that morning and found the nest empty. Thus concludes the FOURTH year in this nest. They have been in this area for 11 years now, and had TWO eaglets all but one of those years. What a treat for The Woodlands, Texas!
