  2. Wikipedia overview<br />Wikipedia is a massive collection of research articles created by the public. The information provided on Wikipedia changes frequently and it is provided by outside sources. Wiki stands for “quick information” in Hawaiian.<br />Users may log in and edit an article, but the article must be approved by Wikipedia authors before being published.<br /> The web site was called Nupedia when it first appeared on the internet viewable by the public in 2000. <br />Wikipedia appeared in 2001, a month before the 9/11 attacks which appeared on the homepage of Wikipedia.<br />Wikipedia bases its information on external links and references.<br />Wikipedia is also a platform for other wiki’s such as MediaWiki and WikiNews.<br />

Wikipedia pro’s and con’s<br />Pro’s-<br />The advantages of using Wikipedia are being able to get quick information on articles about anything.<br />Wikipedia is monitored based on accuracy.<br />Most of the information is relevant to the topic.<br />Each article has reliable sources to backup the information presented.<br />Con’s-<br />Information on Wikipedia may not be accurate.<br />Anyone can vandalize articles.<br />Personal ideology is used at times, so information in the article may not be official.<br />

Wikipedia features & benefits<br />Articles can be viewable in different languages, such as Dutch, Chinese, Portuguese, Spanish, and French.<br />You may provide feedbacks to the authors of the articles and also read the article.<br />If you visit the Main page, it includes the news of what is happening around the world.<br />The main page includes what happened on the date you viewed the page, such historical events, and famous people’s birthdays. <br />

Wikipedia applications<br />WikiAnswers– Simple answers provided by people for people.<br />WikiCollecting – Community based on guiding users to the world of collecting.<br />WikiMapia – Uses Google maps with a wiki system.<br />Wikispecies – A directory of species.<br />Wikitravel – Travel guide.<br />
  6. Wikipedia usage<br />Groups can use this for real examples from real people and what their different views are on information.<br />
  7. Steps into creating a Wikipedia account<br />1. At the top right corner of the page, click onto log in/ create account button. <br />2. At log in page, click “create one”.<br />3. Fill in verification box.<br />4. Create a username, password and enter your email address in.<br />5. Click CREATE ACCOUNT.<br />Read<br />
