LinkedIn is a business-oriented social networking site that has more than 55 million registered users, spanning more than 200 countries and territories worldwide.
The purpose of the site is twofold:
To allow registered users to develop and maintain a network of people they know and trust in business. The people in the list are called “Connections.”
Users can invite anyone (whether currently a site user or not) to become a connection.
To allow registered users to display their professional profile, endorsements, personal web sites, etc. for the purpose of reconnecting, finding new talent, finding opportunities for career advancement, etc., as desired.
List your current, past positions & education along with you tenure there.
Add a profile picture – this helps others to recognise you.
Add a summary paragraph – this helps others to learn about you.
Ensure your connections represent your “real world” network.
Use the LinkedIn email import feature to see all of the people you know who are already on LinkedIn. You can then select who you wish to invite to join your trusted network. You can also search for people from your past jobs or schools and invite them to reconnect.
Leverage the power of your LinkedIn network.
Look up someone’s profile before you meet them. Learn about their background and see who you know in common.
