Facts <ul><li>I chose St Matthew because I am named after him. </li></ul><ul><li>His feast day is on September 21 st . </li></ul><ul><li>He is the patron of bankers. </li></ul><ul><li>He was the son of Alpheus. </li></ul><ul><li>Matthew was a Jewish person. He was born in Palestine. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Matthew meets Jesus <ul><li>St Matthew lived around the time of Jesus. </li></ul><ul><li>Be fore his conversion Matthew was a tax collector. He was a honest man but he was in a profession that was notorious for attracting thieves. </li></ul><ul><li>He was sitting doing his job when Jesus, passing by, looked on him and said &quot;follow me.“ He threw Jesus a big party and invited many tax collector friends. </li></ul><ul><li>Matthew was originally named Levi, Jesus changed his name to Matthew, which means in Hebrew 'the gift of Yahweh.' </li></ul>
  4. 4. Matthew the disciple <ul><li>He is one of the 12 disciples. </li></ul><ul><li>Mathew is the author of the first Gospel. </li></ul><ul><li>Matthew wrote the Gospel for the Jewish people. He wanted the Jewish people to know that Jesus is the Messiah. </li></ul><ul><li>After the ascension, he is believed to have preached the gospel in Africa, to the south of the Caspian sea, Persia, Macedonia and Syria. </li></ul><ul><li>He was martyred while preaching in Ethiopia at Naddaber </li></ul>
