  2. 2. <ul><li>China’s history goes back many years ago.It is believed to go back 3 thousand years ago maybe even more. Then during 1200 china was invaded by the mongols from mongolia and was ruled by Kablai Khan, this was then called the Yuan dynasty.Mongls are to believed to be the first invaders who took over for a few years. By the mid 1300s the Yuan Dynasty gave way to the Ming dynasty.Then in the mid 1600s, Manchurian troops invaded and overthrew the Ming dynasty. </li></ul>China's History!!
  3. 3. <ul><li>4. The Silk road. of China </li></ul><ul><li>China is the fourth largest country in the world with over 1.3 Billion people!! It is such a beautiful with long, wide beaches and never ending plains. It has towering Temples, beautiful gardens and famous landmarks. </li></ul><ul><li>China is rich in natural and historical sites that are fascinating, unqiue and extraordinary. The east coast of China is border by the YELLOW SEA to the NORTH and to the China sea to the SOUTH. It is in these waters, near the City of Qingdao, where the Olympic Competition will take place. </li></ul><ul><li>The following is some of the famous landmarks in CHINA: </li></ul><ul><li>1.The Grand Canal of China </li></ul><ul><li>This is the world’s oldest and longest canal surpassing the Suez and Panama Canals. </li></ul><ul><li>It is 1795 kilometeres (1,114 miles) in length with 24 ocks and 60 bridges. </li></ul><ul><li>This canal is man-made and is 2,500 years old. </li></ul><ul><li>2.The Great Wall of China </li></ul><ul><li>This is the symbol of the Chinese nation as well as one of the 7 wonders of the world. </li></ul><ul><li>It is 2,000 years old. </li></ul><ul><li>The great wall of China can be seen from the moon. </li></ul><ul><li>3.The Huang Long or Yellow Dragon </li></ul><ul><li>this a special scenic spot in Sichuan in Central China. </li></ul><ul><li>It is an awe-inspiring scenic view and is part of the ‘Natural legacy lists of the world.’ </li></ul>Chnia- The Land of ELEGANCE and SPLENDOR The Silk road passes and routes served as a means of transport and communication in acient times by the Chinese and the Europeans. 5.The Tiananmen Square This is one of the largest public squares in the world. It is located within the centre of Beijing. Thousands of people visit this square everyday and many of them come here at sunrise to watch the daily national flag rising ceremony. 6.The Forbidden City or Palace museum This is the worlds largest palace complex. It was the home of the Chinese empores for 5 centeries. Building of this complex began in 1407 and was completed 14 years later!!
  4. 4. <ul><li>The first Opium War: This exploded out in 1840 when Britain persisted for the illegal opium trade in the territories of China wheras China prohibited this narcotic druig. China lost the war, thus, Britain and other Western powers gained special privileges over China. Under the Treaty of Nanking,(1842), Hongkong was handed to Britain. When the opium war ended in 1898, Britain brought about a 99 year lease of the New Territories enlarging the Hongkong region. </li></ul><ul><li>The Great ‘People’s Republic of China’: On October 1, 1949, the founding of the People’s Republic of China was certified in Beijing. A new political and economic regime was instated patterned on the Soviet Society. The economy had improved a lot under this new form of government. </li></ul><ul><li>Communism Society started going down in early 1960’s where State President Liu Shaoqi and his party adopted the realistic policies </li></ul><ul><li>In 1980, the reformist party led by Zhao Ziyang brought in great improvements in the standard of living especially for urban workers and farmers. Literature and arts blossomed and chinese intellectuals established extensive links with scholars in other countries. </li></ul><ul><li>In 1989, there were growing economic hardship caused by high inflation. University students and otrher citizens in Beijing camped ouyt ath the Tianenmen square to protest against those who slowe reforms. Martial law was declared on May 20, 1989. </li></ul><ul><li>In 1997, after the death of Deng, President Jiang Zemin took over the government. </li></ul><ul><li>In 2003, Hu Jintao replaced Jiang as the President. </li></ul>War!!
