Keep yourself safe on the road this Winter
with our safety tips.
2. * Winter is described by many as the most
wonderful time of the year, but it’s also the
most dangerous.
* Owing to the weather conditions underfoot are
often treacherous, and it’s even worse out on
the roads.
* Read on to learn our top tips to safe when
driving this Winter.
*
3. * The first thing to remember when driving in
the Winter is to adjust your speed to the
conditions you’re driving in.
* If you don’t think it’s safe to drive to the speed
limit in certain circumstances then don’t – if
anyone wants to put their own life in danger
they can simply overtake you
* Driving too fast can have fatal consequences –
especially if you need to turn a corner or
quickly brake – so don’t do it.
*
4. * You should obviously be keeping a safe distance
between yourself and other cars at the best of
times, but it’s important to hold back even
further in Winter conditions
* Remember that braking distances are even
longer in the Winter, you run the risk of piling
into a car or losing control of your own brakes
if you have to stop sharply, simply because the
car in front has had to as well.
*
5. * Make sure that you’ve got a full supply of
washer fluids and antifreeze before you head
out on the road to keep your windscreen clear,
this will lessen the chances of it needing to be
repaired and stop your vision from being
impaired
* Chances are you’re going to need plenty of
both of them over the Winter – if you find
yourself needing them and they aren’t there,
you aren’t going to be able to drive.
*
6. * First thing’s first, we don’t recommend driving
on snow or ice under any circumstance
whatsoever.
* In the unlikely circumstance that you’ve no
choice but to though, pull away and accelerate
gently. Failure to do so can lead to disaster.
* Also, brake soon yet gently – if you brake
completely then you won’t be able to steer
whatsoever.
* Beginning to see why it’s not advisable yet?
*
7. * They aren’t mandatory in all countries, but
winter tyres can go a long way to giving you
some stability on winter roads.
* In addition snow chains are a great help when
driving in slightly more extreme circumstances.
* Again, venturing out in the snow is hardly
advisable, but it can’t be denied that the
above make things a little easier.
*
8. * We all feel like we need to be somewhere, but
if it just isn’t sensible to drive then don’t go.
* It doesn’t matter if it’s for social or work
purposes – putting your life in danger makes
absolutely no sense whatsoever, so don’t be
afraid to say no.
