  • John 17:13-19 Matthew 22:36-40 Matthew 6:1-34 1 Corinthians 7:29-35
  • John 17:13-14 Jesus prayed this: I am coming to You now, but I say these things while I am still…..in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them. I have given them Your word and the world has hated them, for they are…..not of the world …… as I am……….not of the world.
  • John 17:15-19 Jesus prayed this: My prayer is not that you take them…..out of the world, but that you protect them from the evil one. They are.…not of the world, even as I am..………not of the world. Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me ….into the world, I have sent them …into the world. For them ……..I sanctify myself, that ….they too may be truly sanctified.
  • Matthew 22:36-40 36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
  • Matthew 22:36-40 Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart with all thy soul with all thy mind. Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thy self. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
  • GOD SELFNEIGHBOR LOVE

  • O U T L I N E O F M A T T H E W 6 Matthew 6:01 WARNING - BE CAREFUL with YOUR RIGHTEOUSNESS Matthew 6:02-04 WHEN YOU GIVE …to the needy Matthew 6:05-08 WHEN YOU PRAY Matthew 6:09-13 HOW YOU PRAY - These verses of prayer are “Asking God to….” Matthew 6:14-15 IF YOU FORGIVE Matthew 6:16-18 WHEN YOU FAST Matthew 6:19-21 DO NOT STORE TREASURES on EARTH and in YOUR HEART DO STORE TREASURES in HEAVEN with HEALTHY EYES Matthew 6:22-24 DO HAVE HEALTHY EYES TO LIGHT THE BODY DO SERVE ONE MASTER, GOD Matthew 6:25-27 DO NOT WORRY Matthew 6:28-30 WHY DO YOU WORRY Matthew 6:31-32 DO NOT WORRY and SAY ‘WHAT SHALL WE……..” Matthew 6:33-34 DO SEEK AND RECEIVE
  • Giving to the Needy 1 Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2 So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Praying 5 And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9 This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 Your Kingdom come, Your Will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ 14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. Fasting 16 When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18 so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Treasures in Heaven 19 Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. 22 The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness! 24 No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. Do Not Worry 25 Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? 28 And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. Seek and Receive 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 6:1-34 The Entire Text from the New International Version This slide includes all verses in Chapter 6 and is for reference only, not expected to be read.
  • A Warning – Be Careful Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, Then you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. Matthew 6:1 BE CAREFUL with YOUR RIGHTEOUSNESS
  • Giving to the Needy 2 So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Matthew 6:2-4 WHEN YOU GIVE…to the needy
  • Prayer 5 And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Matthew 6:5-8 WHEN YOU PRAY
  • How You Pray 9 This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in Heaven, Your Name……..is hallowed, 10 Your Kingdom…come, Your Will………..be done, on earth……...as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today…..our daily bread. 12 Forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. 13 Lead us not into temptation, Deliver us from the evil one.’ Matthew 6:9-13 HOW YOU PRAY These verses are about “Asking God to….” Other verses are “Instructions for us to….”
  • Forgiving 14 For If…..you forgive other people when they sin against you, Then Your Heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But If…..you do not forgive others their sins, Then Your Father will not forgive your sins. Matthew 6:14-15 IF YOU FORGIVE
  • Fasting 16 When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18 so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and Your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Matthew 6:16-18 WHEN YOU FAST
  • Storing Treasures 19 Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21 DO NOT STORE TREASURES on EARTH and in YOUR HEART DO STORE TREASURES in HEAVEN with HEALTHY EYES
  • Healthy Eyes to Serve God 22 The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, Then your whole body will be full of light. 23 But If your eyes are unhealthy, Then your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, Then how great is that darkness! 24 No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. Matthew 6:22-24 HEALTHY EYES TO LIGHT THE BODY SERVE ONE MASTER, GOD
  • Worrying 25 Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life,……what you will eat or drink; or about your body,…what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and Is not the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? Matthew 6:25-27 DO NOT WORRY
  • Worrying 28 And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which today is here and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, Then will He not much more clothe you — you of little faith? Matthew 6:28-30 WHY DO YOU WORRY
  • Worrying 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and Your Heavenly Father knows that you need them. Matthew 6:31-32 DO NOT WORRY and SAY WHAT SHALL WE…..
  • Seek and Receive 33 But Seek first His Kingdom and His Righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 6:33-34 SEEK FIRST and DO NOT WORRY
  • Be As Though…… 29 But this I say, brethren, the time is short, so that from now on, those who have wives, should be as though….they had none, 30 those who weep should be as though….they did not weep, those who rejoice should be as though….they did not rejoice, those who buy should be as though….they did not possess, 31 those who use this world should be as though….they are not misusing it. 1 Corinthians 7:29-35 THE TIME IS SHORT
  • Be With and Without Care For the form of this world is passing away. 32 But I want you to be without care. He who is unmarried cares for the things of the Lord —how he may please the Lord. 33 But he who is married cares about the things of the world —how he may please his wife. 1 Corinthians 7:29-35 THE TIME IS SHORT
  • Be With and Without Care For the form of this world is passing away. 34 There is a difference between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman cares about the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit. But she who is married cares about the things of the world— how she may please her husband. 1 Corinthians 7:29-35 THE TIME IS SHORT
  • Be Without Distraction 35 And this I say for your own profit, not that I may put a leash on you, but for what is proper, and that you may serve the Lord without distraction. 1 Corinthians 7:29-35 THE TIME IS SHORT
