  9. 9. There is something deep within us that responds to those who level with us, those who don’t suggest our compromises for us. You and I won’t be connected if only 1 of us is willing to disclose our real thoughts & emotions. You and I won’t experience connectivity if we are only willing to be “real” on rare occasions. Connectivity requires persistent identity. Connectivity requires intimacy, vulnerability, transparency, which scares most people half to death. To keep it simple, human connectivity requires that we .. { Tell the truth. Tell the truth. Tell the truth… } Human Connectivity http://www.fierceinc.com/blog/?p=488 _______ 9

IT’S ABOUT RELATIONSHIP NOT POWER 2. IT’S ABOUT RELATIONSHIP NOT SUBMISSION 3. IT’S ABOUT RELATIONSHIP NOT INDIVIDUAL INDEPENDENCE 4. IT’S ABOUT THE PURPOSE NOT THE WORK 5. IT’S ABOUT CHOOSING NOT TO FLY, WHEN YOU CAN FLY 28 The Power Of Leading Through Effective Relationships In The Workplace
  29. 29. CONTRAST 1 IT’S ABOUT RELATIONSHIP NOT POWER “Leadership through Effective Relationship, rather than through Hierarchical Chain of Command” 29
  30. 30. CONTRAST 2 IT’S ABOUT RELATIONSHIP NOT REQUIRED SUBMISSION What’s the difference between Effective Relationship and Required Submission in attempting successful achievement of the goals of you and your organization? 30
  31. 31. RELATIONSHIP vs SUBMISSION “To force my will on you is exactly what relationship does not do. Genuine relationships are marked by submission…..” ----------------------------------------------------------------- “Submission is not about authority and Submission is not about obedience;” “Submission is all about relationships of love and respect.” CONTRAST 2 31
  32. 32. CONTRAST 3 IT’S ABOUT RELATIONSHIP NOT INDIVIDUAL INDEPENDENCE What’s the difference between Effective Relationship and Individual Independence in the workplace how does each affect accomplishment or not of yours and organizational goals? 32
  33. 33. WHAT PREVENTS EFFECTIVE RELATIONSHIPS “… INDEPENDENCE WITH ITS QUEST FOR POWER AND FULFILLMENT ACTUALLY DESTROYS THE RELATIONSHIP” 33
  34. 34. RELATIONSHIP vs INDEPENDENCE “Humans are so lost and damaged that to you it is almost incomprehensible that people could live and work together without some being in charge.” “We have no concept of final authority among us, only unity. We are in a circle of relationship, not a chain of command….” “When you chose independence over relationship, you became a danger to one another.” “Your independence with its quest for power and fulfillment actually destroys the relationship your heart longs for.” CONTRAST 3 34
  35. 35. BOOKS FOR LIFE LONG LEARNING 35
  36. 36. CONTRAST 4 IT’S ABOUT THE PURPOSE NOT THE WORK VISION GOALS 36
  37. 37. WORK & PURPOSE “It’s not the work, but the purpose that makes it special.” CONTRAST 4 37
  38. 38. CONTRAST 5 IT’S ABOUT BEING NOT APPEARANCES Who a person is! NOT Who a person appears to be. 38
  39. 39. BEING VS APPEARANCE “Being always transcends appearance. Once you begin to know the being behind the face. -------------------------------------------------------- As determined by your bias, the surface appearances fade away until they simply no longer matter.” CONTRAST 5 39
  40. 40. JUDGING UNWORTHY OR WORTHY “Humans have a great capacity for declaring something good or evil, without truly knowing.” “You are truly blind to your own place in the creation.” “When something happens to you, how do you determine whether it is good or evil?” “I’m not really sure I have any logical ground for deciding what is actually good or evil, except how something affects me.” “When your good and evil clash with your neighbors, fights are arguments pursue and even wars break out.” CONTRAST 5 40
  41. 41. CONTRAST 6 IT’S ABOUT LIVING IN A WORLD AND A WORLD LIVING IN YOU THE BLENDING OF THE TWO WITHOUT CONFLICT CONNECTION VS ISOLATION 41
  42. 42. LIVING IN A WORLD & A WORLD LIVING IN YOU “You can kiss your family and friends good-bye and put miles between you, but at the same time you carry them with you in your heart, your mind, your stomach, because you do not just live in a world But a world lives in you.” Frederick Buechner, Telling the Truth CONTRAST 6 42
  43. 43. YELL “DON’T FORGET THE BOOKS” FROM EXECUTIVE BOOKS IN MECHANICSBURG, PA 43
  44. 44. CONTRAST 7 IT’S ABOUT CHOOSING NOT TO FLY, NOT FLYING JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN WHEN YOU CAN FLY Though a leader can accomplish crucial tasks can allow followers to accomplish those same tasks, rather than the leader doing the work out of the feeling of necessity. 44
  45. 45. CHOOSING NOT TO FLY SERVE It’s NOT About Power “Relationships are never about power, and one way to avoid the will to hold power over another is to CHOOSE to limit oneself - serve.” “CHOOSING to stay on the ground is a CHOICE to facilitate a relationship and honor that relationship.” “You CHOOSE to limit yourself so as to facilitate and honor that relationship.” 45
  46. 46. WHAT BLOCKS RELATIONSHIPS SPARROWS and EAGLES and PENGUINS PRIDE LOOK AT ME FLY I’M OLDER I’M WISER I’M YOUNGER I’M MORE TECHNICALLY LITERATE 46

  50. 50. OBSERVATION “Each relationship between two persons is absolutely unique. That is why you cannot love two people the same way. It is simply not possible. You love each person differently because of who they are and the uniqueness they draw out of you.” 50
