My First Time ... Buying A Website: The Process And What To Do
When Purchasing
Just as many people on Hubpages are successfully managing, a while ago I decided that I wanted to
try and buy/make a profitable website. I thought I knew a lot about computers and the internet, but
oooh boy was I wrong! At first everything seemed like a foreign language, the marketing approach
seemed incredibly complex and I started to feel like giving up.

However, a couple of kind friends stepped in and sent me many emails explaining the process.
Thanks to them, I eventually developed an understanding of the whole process of how to buy a
website, and after a while, I managed to understand the marketing too... Which lead to me taking the
plunge and purchasing one. It was a real nerve racking experience (for me), but one I have also
thoroughly enjoyed. Hence, this is my story about the journey, the discoveries and lots of interesting
information for anyone considering following this path! I will try to cover it step by step and also
include lots of nifty marketing tips... Hope you enjoy reading the series of hubs to follow.

The first thing I found tricky was finding a place to buy websites. They tend not to be in the classifieds
section of your local newspaper (although, some are) and you also need more information than is
normally given in a classified advert. My thought was simple, I wanted to find somewhere that sold
websites in a transparent way. By this, I mean that they have at least verified some of the information
about the site and the seller. But, preferably that they have collected a lot of the information a buyer
may want to know. A couple of the better sites (in my opinion) were Flippa.com and
WebsiteBroker.com. My reasons for picking these two sites are more of convenience and security
than anything else, these sites provide you with (and verify many aspects of) the following:

• Date Started
• Disk Space
• Bandwidth
• Adult Content
• WHOIS Information
• Statistics Available
• Google Page Rank
• Google Analytics
• Unique Visitors
• Verified Page views
• Verified Visits
• Verified New Visits
• Verified Bounces
• Verified Search Engine Data
• Alexa Rank
• Alexa Popularity
• Alexa Backlinks Count
• Google Backlinks Count
• Altavista Backlinks Count
• Alltheweb Backlinks Count
• Google Indexed Pages
• Bing Indexed Pages
• Alexa Site Creation Date
• Keywords in Google
• Possible Copies Found

Hence, they make finding potentially good and genuine sites for sale much easier. That is not to say
that there aren't bad eggs amongst the many for sale, just that they are a little easier to spot, as they
are often the ones avoiding supplying the information show above.

In my next hub of this series, I will be looking at what you need to check before considering making a
serious offer on a website.

I hope that you have found this interesting and if you have any opinions or comments, please take a
moment to drop me a line below. Actually, come to think of it, if there is a particular area that you
would like expanded on and explained in more detail, please let me know and I will do my best to
respond.

Cheers for taking the time to read my Hub.
