Then in a bowl combine 2 1/2 cups of flour, 2 cups of sugar, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1/8 teaspoon of salt.
After you added the dry ingredients, then add to your bowl, 1 1/3 cup of butter milk, 1/2 cup of shorting, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla
Next beat the batter with an electric mixer on low speed for 30 seconds, scraping the bowl. Then beat on medium for 2 more minutes scraping the bowl occasionally.
After you mixed the batter until it was smooth add the 2 cups of flour, and 4 egg whites. Again mix the batter for 2 more minutes on medium.
Then after you mixed the batter, pour it into a 9" greased baking pan. Then put the pan in the oven.
After the batter bakes in the oven for 30-35 minutes insert a toothpick into the center of the cake. If the toothpick comes out dirty or with cake crumbs on it put the cake back in the oven for about 5 more minutes.
Then let the cake cool outside the oven for 10 minutes. Make sure you turn the oven off!
Once the cake is cooled down cut the cake into 6 pieces.
