Goals for March 2 Strategic Planning Session <ul><li>Review and reaffirm Strategic Areas of focus framework for 2007 Strategic Plan </li></ul><ul><li>Update the Commission on key demographics and data regarding Kern County’s children </li></ul><ul><li>Develop estimates of approximate financial commitment for each strategic area </li></ul><ul><li>Provide direction to staff and TAC regarding the 2007 Strategic Plan and Executive Summary documents </li></ul><ul><li>Develop directions to staff and TAC to develop and propose the “how” to components for the new Strategic Plan </li></ul>

Aligning with State First 5 California <ul><li>In the last couple years the First 5 California Commission revamped its strategic area guidelines, and the way it will engage in evaluation. </li></ul><ul><li>First 5 Kern’s Strategic Areas of focus are aligned with First 5 California’s. </li></ul><ul><li>First 5 Kern has recently carried out a review of and continues to assess the indicators in its plan. Indicator review helps ensure the our local indicators are aligned with state guidelines, and ensures the Strategic Plan has the appropriate indicators necessary for the Commission to measure whether it is having success, with success focused on the condition of children and their families. Chapters 3 and 4 of this series discuss indicators more thoroughly. </li></ul><ul><li>The following slide provides an overview comparison of the strategic areas of focus for the state First 5 California and First 5 Kern Commissions. </li></ul>

Strategic Plan Documents <ul><li>First 5 Kern has three Strategic Plan documents: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Strategic Plan for Early Childhood Development in Kern County which contains the full history and foundation of the Strategic Plan. The document is meant to contain the full collection of the various components of the Commission’s Strategic Plan and planning activities. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Executive Summary Strategic Plan provides an abbreviated overview of the Commission’s Strategic Plan. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Implementation Work Plan provides a working document that sets out the current strategic activities or work plan the Commission is focused on developing. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>The following slide provides you an overview of the sections of the Strategic Plan. </li></ul></ul>
