  2. 2. Internet search engines are a tool  designed to search for information on the world wide web. A Search Engine creates a customized  list of Internet sites containing information on a search topic by utilizing computer programs known as robots or spiders to search for your keywords on Web pages. Though most search engines use this  technology they will produce different results according to how the robots work and the different types of search criteria allowed. For best results, search more than one search engine. Search Engines provide quick, access to  the wide variety of information available on the Web. Each time you search, Yahoo! and Google instantly scan through its comprehensive database of web pages, determines the comparative relevancy to your search query, and offers these web pages as ranked results.
  3. 3. The two most popular search engines are  Google and yahoo. There are heaps of other search engines on  the internet that anyone could use however it seems that Google and Yahoo! are the two most popular people will use.
  4. 4. Google basically searches for websites that contain  the search topic but it’s not always the specific topic. It will take every word listed and then find websites containing those words or group of words. The technology behind Google search technology is a  pigeon rank, a system for ranking web pages developed by Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin at Stanford University. Google has other search engines to improve every  aspect of their services on a daily basis, but pigeon rank is the mother board that Google uses.

  6. 6. Yahoo uses something called Yahoo! Search Technology  YST ranks web pages according to their relevance to a  particular query by analysing document features, including text, title and description accuracy, source, associated links, and other unique document characteristics. A single search gives you immediate results from a database  that is updated daily to capture newly created and changing pages, including late-breaking news and timely events. Yahoo! Search provides quick, intuitive access to the wide  variety of information available on the Web. Each time you search, Yahoo! Search Technology instantly scan through its comprehensive database of web pages, determine the comparative relevancy to your search query, and offer these web pages as ranked results.
  7. 7. You visit the Yahoo! page, visit the ad-free  dedicated Yahoo! Search start page or the Google home page and locate the basic search box, you then type a word or phrase into the search box and click “Search.” The Search Engines then instantly scan through its  comprehensive database of web pages, determines the comparative relevancy to your search query, and offers these web pages as ranked results.

  9. 9. There are all different types of age groups and professions that can  use internet search engines. It really has no restriction on who can use this technology. Google and Yahoo! really have no strict target audience. Google  helps to improve learning and it helps in the aid of the learning process of any person. Google and Yahoo! is being used because it search 9 billion  URL’s, Google identifies ads and sponsors links, Google and Yahoo! are both very fast Google and Yahoo! can also help teachers and students by providing  a wide range of resources that are easily available online, for example encyclopaedia’s etc.
